How Is a Skull Fracture Treated? Paul Pelosi's Injury Explained

The husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was attacked early Friday morning after the assailant broke into their residence in San Francisco.
Paul Pelosi, husband of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing surgery to treat a skull fracture after being attacked with a hammer Friday morning in the couple’s home in San Francisco, California.
According to a release from Speaker Pelosi’s office, Paul Pelosi, 82, “underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arms and hands” at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
The University of Cincinnati Health Center (UC Health) says that a skull fracture, or a break in the skull bone, can be mild and cause few problems over time. However, severe breaks to the skull can lead to bleeding, brain damage and seizures.
UC Health’s website also says that treatment for a skull fracture can vary depending on the severity of the injury.
