Twitter’s vastly reduced moderation team is fighting a flood of porn and escort service tweets.
Protests are happening across China’s major cities against the country’s very strict COVID measures, but on Twitter, Chinese users are more likely to see porn than protest tweets.
As The The reports, Twitter in China has been flooded with a mix of adult content and ads for escort services soon after the protests began. The source of these tweets is Chinese-language accounts which seem to exists simply to spam nuisance content.
Some of the accounts haven’t been used for months or even years, but suddenly sprang into action as Chinese Twitter users started tweeting about the protests and demands for communist party leader Xi Jinping to resign.
