Taylor Swift has finally shaken off the long-running lawsuit over lyrics in her hit “Shake It Off.” Songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, who claimed Swift copied.
Taylor Swift has finally shaken off the long-running lawsuit over lyrics in her hit “Shake It Off.” Songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, who claimed Swift copied their line “Playas, they gonna play, and haters, they gonna hate,” told a judge Monday that they are dropping their 2017 copyright infringement lawsuit without prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled, reports Reuters. The filing did not mention any settlement and lawyers for both sides declined to comment, the New York Times reports. The case had been due to go to trial on Jan. 17. In court filings, Swift said she hadn’t heard “Playas Gon’ Play,” a 2001 3LW song written by Hall and Butler, until the lawsuit over her 2014 song was filed.
