Emmys Will Be Postponed Until 2024 in the Wake of SAG-AFTRA and WGA Strikes: Report

The 75th Primetime Emmys have officially been pushed back amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
The 75th Primetime Emmys are officially on hold — and vendors have been notified, according to Variety. Amid the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the outlet revealed that the original Sept. 18 airdate has been pushed back, marking the first time the ceremony has been delayed since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The news doesn’t quite come as a surprise in light of Hollywood’s shutdown — but it is the first time it’s officially been confirmed. While a new date for the award show hasn’t been decided yet, Variety previously reported that The Academy is pushing for a November 2023 date, while Fox is aiming for January 2024.
According to Deadline, an official date is expected to be announced in August — although, sources told the outlet that the Emmys will, in fact, be held in January.
“Like the rest of the industry, we hope there will be an equitable and timely resolution for all parties in the current guild negotiations,” the TV Academy said in a statement, per Variety.
