A resolution put forward at the United Nations Security Council by the United Arab Emirates was backed by ninety-seven countries. Only the United States disagreed with the call and used its veto.
Deputy Permanent Representative for the the U.S. to the UN Robert A. Woods (pictured) described the resolution as “dangerous,” and said he could not understand why the authors of the resolution could not include language condemning Hamas.

The United Kingdom, forever siding with the United States abstained from the vote.
Ambassador Barbara Woodward cited the failure of the resolution to condemn the atrocities Hamas committed on innocent Israeli civilians on 7 October.
