The president’s inner circle is being blamed for his poor debate performance on Thursday.
The fallout over Joe Biden’s lackluster debate performance continues, with the president’s campaign advisers receiving backlash.
Biden’s reelection hopes took a severe hit on June 27 following a worrying night on stage at the CNN presidential debate against Donald Trump.
Biden, 81, had already long faced concerns about running for a second turn in office due to his age and perceived cognitive decline. The president’s performance did little to dispel those worries at the debate after giving multiple confusing and at times incoherent answers while frequently appearing to trail off and failing to finish his sentences.
In the wake of the debate, John Morgan, a top Biden donor, blamed White House senior adviser Anita Dunn and her husband, the president’s attorney Bob Bauer, for failing to adequately prepare Biden for the debate. Morgan suggested on social media the pair need to be „banished“ from the president’s inner circle, describing their debate input as „political malpractice.“
It has been reported that Biden’s family, who are urging the president to stay in the 2024 race, have also criticized Dunn, Bauer and another one of his campaign advisers, Biden’s former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, for failing to prepare the president for the debate, calling for them to be fired or demoted.
The claims from Politico and The New York Times,citing unnamed sources, have been denied by Biden’s team.
