US Warships, Aircraft Leave Helene's Path Before Florida Hurricane Hits

Tropical storm is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida on Thursday evening.
Ships and aircraft in the path of Hurricane Helene are making preparations to leave the area as the storm intensifies.
Helene is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida on Thursday evening after traveling northward over the Gulf of Mexico over the past two days. At 1 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Helene was situated approximately 65 miles east of Cozumel, Mexico, and 120 miles southwest of the southern tip of Cuba.
A marine forecast update issued at 5:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday by the National Data Buoy Center warned that dangerous winds and seas are expected later today and are expected to last till at least Thursday night due to Helene. As of yesterday, the storm was six nautical miles south-southeast of Fowey Rocks, seven nautical miles east of Port Everglades, nine nautical miles east of Lake Worth, and 11 nautical miles east northeast of Jupiter Inlet.
