The parents of Tyre Sampson, a 14-year-old Missouri boy who fell to his death from a high-speed Orlando amusement park ride two years ago, won a $310 million verdict against the Austrian manufacturer of the attraction.
On Thursday, an Orange County, Florida, jury awarded $155 million each to Tyre’s parents, Nekia Dodd and Yarnell Sampson, after finding that Funtime, the ride’s manufacturer, was responsible for the deadly incident.
Tyre Sampson died on March 24, 2022, after plummeting 70 feet from the Orlando Free Fall ride at Icon Park in Orlando, Florida.
The ride, which dropped passengers from a height of 430 feet, did not have seat belts—an additional safety feature that is found on most drop rides.
