As of Thursday, August 28, the average gas price was $3.21, up from $3.14 the previous month.
This was still an improvement from last year’s gas prices, which averaged at $3.36.
Gas prices vary significantly by state and region, with states such as California and Hawaii having some of the highest in the nation, at $4.59 and $4.47, respectively.
Meanwhile, states in the southern portion of the country tend to boast lower prices, such as in Arkansas, where drivers pay just $2.78.
