ARC Raiders developer Embark Studios pulls back the curtain on the game’s most popular character, Scrappy the rooster, and explains how he came to be.
I imagine if you asked the entire ARC Raiders community whether or not they’d take an in-game bullet for Scrappy the rooster, many of them would say yes, without hesitation. Scrappy has become a pivotal part of the ARC Raiders gameplay loop, collecting materials for players while they head topside to take the battle directly to ARC. But, up until now, very little has been known of Scrappy. Who is he? Why does he give us free materials? Where does he get them from? Some of these answers still remain a mystery, but Embark has given fans some important backstory (lore, if you will) on Scrappy, explaining how he ended up in one of the most popular multiplayer games of the year.
For those who haven’t had the chance to head into Speranza yet and experience ARC Raiders, you might not be aware of the cultural icon that is Scrappy. While he may appear to be just an ordinary rooster, he has a fantastic purpose. When a player heads topside to loot, battle against other players, and fend off ARC, Scrappy gathers some basic materials that can be used to craft important pieces of gear and items. Whether a player completes a successful raid or not, Scrappy will still supply them with metal parts, fabric, chemicals, plastic parts, and more. However, the number of parts Scrappy can gather depends on the raid’s outcome.
