Xiaomi’s phablet series will launch a little later than usual, with the rumored Mi Max 3 now confirmed for a July reveal.
Attention, phablet fans! Xiaomi has confirmed that the latest in the Mi Max series will launch a little later than usual, with the rumored Mi Max 3 now confirmed for a July reveal.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed the news on Chinese social media over the weekend (via Phone Arena). After teasing a number of reveals for the end of the month, Jun was bombarded by users asking whether the Mi Max 3 would be among the announcements.
Jun responded by explaining that the Mi Max 2 successor is (auto-translated) “estimated to be released in July and is not ready yet.”
The Mi Max 2 broke cover in May last year before hitting retail a month later. With that in mind, it seems likely that buyers will have to wait until August to grab Xiaomi’s latest big-screened behemoth.
Rumors started floating around regarding the Mi Max 3 back in January after fuzzy renders (below) emerged of a chunky Xiaomi phone with a dual-camera unit and a rear fingerprint sensor. While there conflicting reports over the phone’s alleged SoC — either a Snapdragon 660 or 635 — all other signs point to a bumper device with a whopping 7-inch, 18:9 display, and a chunky 5,500mAh battery.
The Mi Max 3 is rumored to run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, and feature iris scanning and a 5MP selfie camera. There may also be 3GB RAM/64GB ROM and 4GB/128GB optional memory configurations, with expandable storage also available.
Price-wise, previous leaks suggested that the Mi Max 3 could retail for around 1,699 yuan (~$266) but we’ll have to wait for an official announcement for any solid details.
