The aircraft, based in the U. S. military’s Kadena Air Base in the southwestern part of the prefecture’s main island, crashed into the sea some 80 kilometers south of the Okinawa capital of Naha around 6:25 a.m. (9:25 p.m. Sunday GMT).
The pilot ejected from the single-seat aircraft and was rescued by the Air Self-Defense Force, according to the Defense Ministry.
