Kate Spade show pays tribute to late designer

Kate Spade’s spring 2019 fashion show included a tribute to the late designer in the form of cards bearing a twist on her most famous quote.
On Friday, the Kate Spade brand showed its first collection since the passing of its namesake founder, who died by suicide in June at the age of 55.
A card placed at each guest’s seat — pink, to match the show’s décor — read, “She left a little sparkle everywhere she went,” a past-tense twist on a memorable quote by the late designer that referenced the essence of the Kate Spade woman.
“In loving memory, 1962 – 2018” was inscribed on the reverse side.
Rather than hosting an upbeat presentation with flowing champagne and hors-d’oeuvres as the label traditionally does each season, Kate Spade unveiled its first collection designed by new creative director Nicola Glass in the form of a runway show at the New York Public Library.
From the front row, stars including Priyanka Chopra, Elizabeth Olsen and Kate Bosworth admired the brand’s spring 2019 offerings, which included leather versions of Spade’s iconic “Sam” bag — the first tote the design icon created back in 1993, and arguably her most famous — and plenty of items featuring the company’s spade-shaped logo.
