From ruling the smartphone space for a while now, OnePlus is now all set to enter the TV segment
Earlier last week OnePlus announced the coming of their next flagship phone and the successor to the OnePlus 6 aka the OnePlus 6T. Ahead of the launch, the company has confirmed that the OnePlus 6T will come with Oppo F9 Pro and Vivo V11 Pro like in-display fingerprint sensor. It also announced the OnePlus Type C Bullets earphones for the next flagship and confirmed that the OnePlus 6T will not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack like the predecessor. From ruling the smartphone space for a while now, OnePlus is now all set to enter the TV segment, the company CEO Pete Lau has announced. With the OnePlus TV, the company will be looking forward to take on the likes on Xiaomi’s Mi TVs in India, if only they can get the price right.
The first TV by the company will be called the OnePlus TV, Pete revealed. Pete further explained that the OnePlus TV will have the similar premium design as seen on the flagship phones like the OnePlus 5,5T, and OnePlus 6. He also revealed that with the OnePlus TV, the company is looking forward to offer “image quality and audio experience to more seamlessly connect the home”. “We want to bring the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity,” Pete noted in a blog post on the OnePlus forum .
The company has also revealed that the OnePlus TV will feature an AI assistant. However, for now, it’s unclear if the TV will have Google Assistant or Alexa or an in-house solution packed inside. The company has also announced that it is looking at ways to “seamlessly connect the home”, which hints that the users will be able to connect their phones with the OnePlus TV. However, as of now, there’s no clarity on that.
“Over the next five years, developments in 5G and Artificial Intelligence will offer an even greater canvas to brainstorm how to improve life as we know it. In continuing our relentless exploration of improving the world around us, we would like to take the first step in building a connected human experience,” OnePlus has explained on announcing the OnePlus TV.
OnePlus hasn’t revealed much detail about the OnePlus TV as of now. The company is asking for suggestions from the consumers on what they want/expect from the OnePlus TV. “Excited to take the next step forward together! What would you like to see in the OnePlus TV? Have ideas for a name? Let us know,” Pete posted on Twitter. The company is also asking the consumers for suggestions on the name of the smart TV. As of now, the company is calling it the OnePlus TV.

“For most of us, there are four major environments we experience each day: the home, the workplace, the commute, and being on-the-move. The home – perhaps the most important environment experience – is just starting to enjoy the benefits of intelligent connectivity. Something that seems as simple as displaying the photos from your mobile phone to a television is still difficult to achieve. With the development of AI technology, our imagination is endless – and we are looking forward to the future.” said Lau. “We are building a new product of OnePlus’ premium flagship design, image quality and audio experience to more seamlessly connect the home,” Pete further explained.
OnePlus hasn’t revealed the launch timeline of the OnePlus TV, but a report coming from Business Insider reveals that the OnePlus TV will go official only next year. “The OnePlus TV is in the early stages of development, and could be launched next year. It will take post-release software updates to fully realize its vision, though, says the company,” the report notes.
“This is a huge step in the OnePlus journey, but like each step along the way, one that we have taken with intense consideration and deliberation. There is great challenge in pushing new boundaries in technology and innovation, but even greater fulfillment in meeting people around the world impacted by our products every day. Here’s to taking the next step together,” Pete said on announcing the OnePlus TV.
