Huawei today quietly expanded its tablet portfolio with the introduction of the MediaPad M5 Lite. The new tablet focusses on multimedia with its impressive display and a quad-speaker system tubed by Harman Kardon. Unlike most mid-range tablets, the MediaPad M5 Lite comes with stylus support as well. However, the Huawei M-Pen lite stylus will not be bundled in the box in all markets.
The MediaPad M5 Lite has been listed on the Huawei website but the company is yet to reveal pricing information for the tablet. For now, all we know is that the tablet will come in Champagne Gold and Space Grey colors. Availability details have not been revealed either, so consumers may have to wait a while before they can get their hands on the new Huawei tablet. That said, we do expect the MediaPad M5 Lite to go on sale in at least a select few markets sometime in the fourth quarter of the year.

Huawei’s new MediaPad M5 Lite sports an impressive metal unibody build with 2.5D curved glass edge to give it a truly premium look and feel. The MediaPad M5 Lite sports a 10.1-inch IPS LCD screen with 1920 x 1200 WUXGA resolution and a pixel density of 224 pixels per inch. To enhance the viewing experience for users, Huawei has equipped the tablet with its ClariVU technology, which is claimed to enhance display brightness and clarity. There is even an enhanced eye-comfort mode that reduces harmful blue light emission from the display to protect user’s eyesight. Complementing the tablet’s large display is a quad-speaker audio system co-engineered with Harman Kardon to deliver optimized concert hall audio effects, higher bass, and lower distortion. It also supports Huawei’s own Histen 5.0 stereo audio technology for an immersive 3D surround sound experience. As we mentioned above, the MediaPad M5 Lite comes with M-Pen lite stylus support. Thanks to advanced 2048-layer pressure sensitivity, you can use the M-Pen lite stylus to jot down notes or write memos with a high degree of responsiveness.
Powering the tablet is a HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core chipset clocked at up to 2.4 GHz with a Mali-T830 MP2 GPU. The tablet will be available in two memory configurations – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. There is a microSD card slot as well, allowing users to add further storage up to 256GB. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, USB Type-C port, and 4G LTE (select variants only). The tablet is fueled by a 7500mAh capacity battery with Quick Charge technology. Huawei claims it takes less than 2.9 hours for the tablet to be fully charged. In terms of imaging, the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite has an 8MP AF sensor at the rear and an 8MP fixed-focus sensor on the front for video calling. The MediaPad M5 Lite measures 243.4 x 162.2 x 7.7mm and weighs 475 grams. In terms of software, the MediaPad M5 Lite runs on EMUI 8.0 based on the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box.
