Huawei recently launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Mate 20 Pro alongside the standard Mate 20, Mate 20X, and Mate 20 RS Porsche Design at a global launch event held in London. Just a few days back, a teaser page for the smartphone was spotted on Amazon.in, suggesting that it will be available exclusively via Amazon in India. A landing page for the Mate 20 Pro is now live on Amazon.in, where users can tap on the ‘Notify Me’ button to be notified once the smartphone becomes available for purchase on the platform. Unfortunately, no specific release date has been confirmed yet. It also remains to be seen if Huawei will only be launching the Mate 20 Pro in the country or if some of the other members of the Mate 20 series will also be making their way to India by the end of November.
The Mate 20 Pro landing page on Amazon.in highlights some of the key features of the flagship smartphone. Other than that, however, no other relevant information is currently listed on the page. While the pricing remains a mystery at this point, the Amazon.in listing does confirm that Huawei will further strengthen its partnership with Amazon in India with the launch of the Mate 20 Pro. The company’s previous flagship offering, the P20 Pro ( Review) was also launched as an Amazon-exclusive in the country. Huawei had tied up with Amazon for the Nova 3 ( Review) and Nova 3i ( Review) smartphones as well.
While the exact launch date and pricing of the Mate 20 Pro for the Indian market remain a mystery at this point, we do expect Huawei to reveal the launch date soon. The pricing, on the other hand, is likely to be revealed only at the formal launch event. It also remains to be seen if Huawei will bring only the 6GB RAM variant of the Mate 20 Pro to India or if the 8GB RAM variant will be on offer as well. In Europe, the Mate 20 Pro is priced at 1,049 Euros for the 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of onboard storage. Based on the current exchange rate, that translates to INR 88,900. Usually, smartphones are priced lower in India when compared to Europe, so we don’t expect the Mate 20 Pro to be priced closer to the INR 90,000 mark here. Instead, it will likely be priced somewhere around INR 75,000. It will be taking on the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 and Apple iPhone Xs Max in India. In terms of pricing, we are expecting the Mate 20 Pro to be priced slightly higher than the Galaxy Note 9 ( Review) but significantly lower than Apple’s top offering for 2018.
Huawei’s latest and greatest flagship smartphone comes with a large 6.39-inch curved AMOLED display featuring 1440 x 3120 pixels resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Running under the hood is a powerful 7nm Kirin 980 chipset, coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. The smartphone sports a triple-camera setup at the rear with a 40MP primary snapper, 20MP ultra wide-angle lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens. On the front is a 24MP selfie snapper with 3D facial recognition. Keeping the lights on is a 4200mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge technology. In terms of software, the Mate 20 Pro runs on Android 9.0 Pie-based EMUI 9.0.
