HMD Global’s latest mid-range smartphone, the Nokia 7.1, will soon be available for purchase in India. The phone was launched at an event in London earlier this month, but we weren’t given any details about the availability of the device in India. Now, 91Mobiles has received confirmation that the phone will be available in November. HMD Global is currently displaying the new device at the India Mobile Congress, which is being held in New Delhi. Apart from a tentative launch date, some other details about the phone were also shared to the website.
While we do not have the exact launch date and pricing for the Nokia 7.1 in India, we do have a confirmation that the phone is coming in the next few weeks. According to the report, HMD Global will sell the Nokia 7.1 as an online exclusive. We expect the phone to be available only on Flipkart and the Nokia online store.
In UK, the Nokia 7.1 is priced at €299, which is around INR 25,000. The report suggests that the phone will carry a similar price tag in India as well. It is expected to be priced well below INR 30,000 when launched in the country. Earlier this month, Nokia did release a teaser for an upcoming phone with a large display. Unfortunately, that device seems to be a different one, likely the Nokia 7.1 Plus. The 5.84-inch display on the Nokia 7.1 doesn’t really quantify as a large display.
The Nokia 7.1 has a very good display though, which supports HDR10. A recent report claimed that it is even better than the displays on the iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max. It is powered by the Snapdragon 636 processor, which is coupled with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone gets a dual-rear camera setup with a primary 12MP sensor paired with a 5MP depth sensor. For selfies, there’s a 5MP camera available. The phone gets a 3,060mAh battery and supports fast charging. A fingerprint scanner is available at the back, and the phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
Nokia, or HMD Global, has been doing very well in India. Its most recent phones such as the Nokia 6.1 Plus, have sold plenty of units and made a lot of customers happy. The company continues to bring great phones to India, and we are getting a feeling of Nostalgia. It seems like Nokia is on its way to becoming a top smartphone player again.
We have been seeing plenty of mid-range and budget smartphones from Nokia. The Nokia 3.1 Plus, 5.1 Plus, and the Nokia 7 Plus are amazing smartphones. Currently, we do not really have a Nokia flagship, apart from the Nokia 8 Scirocco. There have been rumors and reports suggesting that the Nokia 9 with 5-rear cameras will be announced in a couple of months.
The company has been focusing more on the mid-range and budget smartphone market. Nokia phones have a distinct design language and are of a higher quality than other players in the market. Compared to phones from Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo, the Nokia devices look much more premium and better built. Nokia has also brought back some legends such as the Nokia 3310 and the Nokia 8110 4G phones. Of course, these remakes come with newer hardware and modern amenities.
