Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey meets PM Modi during his trip to India

Jack Dorsey and PM Modi discussed the importance of global conversation on social media platforms
Twitter founder and chief executive officer Jack Dorsey on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The two discussed the importance of global conversation on various social media platforms and steps the micro-blogging platform can take to curb the spread of fake news and other objectionable content on its platform. As per the reports, Dorsey also discussed Twitter’s investment plans in India with PM Modi.
After the meeting, the Twitter CEO thanked PM Modi for sharing his ideas on Twitter. He also shared a picture of him with the PM Modi. “Thank you Prime Minister @narendramodi for having us today. I enjoyed our conversation about the importance of global conversation. Also: thanks for the ideas for Twitter!,” Dorsey wrote in a tweet.
In response, PM Modi said that he enjoyed being on the platform. “Delighted to meet you @jack! Happy to see the passion with which you’re leading @Twitter. I enjoy being on this medium, where I’ve made great friends and see everyday the creativity of people,” Modi tweeted.
Dorsey, who is on his maiden trip to India, has already met several politicians and prominent personalities including Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and Tibetan spiritual guru Dalai Lama. Gandhi said that during their brief meeting the Twitter CEO explained the steps Twitter was taking to tackle the menace of fake news.
On Monday, Dorsey along with Maya Hari, vice-president and managing director, Asia Pacific, Twitter launched the #PowerOf18 initiative in India to encourage Indian youth to actively contribute in public debate and participate in civic engagement in the upcoming election season during a town hall at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
Besides launching the campaign, Dorsey also interacted with the students and talked about a variety of topics including the use of artificial intelligence to tackle fake news and the possibility of Twitter getting an edit option. “We have been considering edit for quite some time but we have to do the right way. We can’t just rush it out. We have to make sure that we are actually solving the predominant reason why people would do it first and foremost and not making something that is distracting or takes anything away from the public record…,” he said on the possibility of the platform getting an edit option, as reported by PTI.
