‘The Queen’ Star Helen Mirren Mourns Queen Elizabeth II: “She Was The Epitome of Nobility”

Dame Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar for her performance in ‘The Queen,’ is one of the first actresses who have portrayed Queen Elizabeth II to publicly mourn her.
Dame Helen Mirren, one of the most renowned actresses who has portrayed Queen Elizabeth II, had taken to Instagram to publicly mourn the late monarch.
Mirren, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Stephen Frears’ 2006 biopic, The Queen, told her Instagram followers on Thursday (Sept. 9), “I am proud to be an Elizabethan,” following the news of Queen Elizabeth’s death.
She added, “We mourn a woman, who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility.”

Earlier this year, Mirren reflected on her role as the Queen, telling EW that she knew she “was stepping into the hornet’s nest.”
The movie, which was written by Peter Morgan (also showrunner of the Netflix series The Crown), follows the events after Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997. Aside from Mirren’s big win, it was also nominated for five other Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
