The former New York governor was attacked Friday evening while on a walk with his stepson.
Two boys under the age of 18 have been arrested in connection to an assault that occurred on Friday night against former New York Governor David Paterson and his 20-year-old stepson, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD).
The NYPD said at a press conference Saturday that Paterson, 70, and his stepson, Anthony Sliwa, were walking in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan around 8:30 p.m. Friday when a group of people attacked them. Police confirmed with Newsweek on Sunday that two suspects—a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy—had been arrested and charged with gang assault in connection to the attack. The names of the suspects were not released.
Paterson, who is legally blind, served as governor from 2008 to 2010 after former Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal.
