Shoppers are gearing up for Cyber Monday as retailers offer a string of deals both online and in-store.
For shopaholics, Black Friday is the best day of the year—but they shouldn’t put away their wallets just yet, as there are still plenty of bargains to be found on Cyber Monday.
Although usually seen as just an online event, there will also be some in-store deals available as retail bosses try to make the most of the surge in customers.
Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) traditionally marks the beginning of the shopping season, and for many people it kicks off the countdown to Christmas. Retailers offered a string of deals this year, designed to tempt shoppers into their stores to make the most of the bargains available during the cost-of-living crisis felt by many Americans. The tactic appears to have paid off as several major retailers enjoyed a good day on the stock market on Friday.
But store bosses will be hoping to carry that momentum forward into this week, with Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving) driving even more sales.What is Cyber Monday?
The roots of Cyber Monday lie in the concept behind its more famous sister event, Black Friday.
The term ‘Black Friday’ originated in Pennsylvania in the 1950s, when Philadelphia police coined the phrase to describe the chaos that they had to deal with after Thanksgiving when the streets were packed with consumers and tourists before an annual Army-Navy football game.
