The song is from Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews’ new album on Blue Note Records, “Parking Lot Symphony.”
Music on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” is already quite New Orleans-y, what with Kenner native and NOCCA alum Jon Batiste as bandleader. On Monday night (Aug. 7) , it got even Big Easier, with Trombone Shorty performing “Here Come the Girls, ” written by Allen Toussaint and originally recorded by Ernie K-Doe.
The song is from Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews’ new album on Blue Note Records, “Parking Lot Symphony.” The New York Times calls the song “retro horn-heavy soul in a jovial remake.”
Shorty told Billboard magazine previously that he included Toussaint’s song on his new album because “everything in that song fits what we do.”
