PSA: Cuphead from Windows Store may not save your game; here's a workaround

Some players have encountered an agonizing bug while playing Cuphead’s WIndows Store version, leading to loss of progress as it fails to autosave. StudioMDHR has now provided a workaround.
Cuphead released just a couple of days ago and we have a full review coming up soon; believe what you may have heard: it’s a tough game. Unfortunately, it turns out, the game suffers from a bug that may agonize its players on PC, turning its difficulty from a challenge into frustration.
It seems that while the GOG and Steam versions of the game perform well and have few – if any – bugs, the Windows Store version available for Windows 10 as an Xbox Play Anywhere title is not quite there yet; to be specific, the game’s autosave functionality doesn’t work as intended in the Windows 10 version, causing loss of hours of progress in the already difficult game, at least for some users.
Some reviews for the game on Windows Store and user comments on Reddit also reflect this issue; fortunately, StudioMDHR seems to be aware of this issue and has provided players with a workaround, while it prepares a patch:
Neowin received the same Windows Store version and encountered the same issue while reviewing the game. We can confirm that the workaround does work for the time being. It’s unclear how minimizing the game could manifest a bug such as this, but it’s interesting that it was not discovered by the developers before releasing the game. The Xbox version, on the other hand, seems to be unaffected.
