Tiger Woods is making his return to competitive golf at an event where he’s enjoyed much success in the past.
After nine months spent away from the sport recovering from his fourth back surgery, Woods announced Monday he will be a part of the 18-player field at the Hero World Challenge starting on Nov. 30. Woods has previously won the event, which he hosts and is a benefit for his charity, five times.
“I am excited to return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge,” Woods said in a statement on the tournament’s website. “Albany is the perfect setting and it will be great to join this outstanding field. I want to thank Pawan Munjal and Hero MotoCorp for their continued support of this tournament and my foundation. I would also like to thank the fans for their unwavering support during my injury.”
Woods, a 14-time major championship winner, last played at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic in February before he was forced to withdraw with back pain.
The positive announcement comes three days after Woods pleaded guilty to reckless driving on Friday, allowing for his DUI charges to be dropped. The 41-year-old received a year of probation and a $250 fine and must complete 50 hours of community service.
