B&O has made the A1 speaker considerably more compact than the previous models and it’s quite the looker. The A1 measures 133mm x 48mm, and is round rather than rectangular.
It’s not lacking in power, though, with a 140W peak output and a 30W continuous output produced by its aluminium cone mid-woofer and silk dome tweeter. If you want proper stereo sound, you can pair two units together thanks to the handy companion app.
Another feature makes the BeoPlay into the ideal portable conference call tool –the circular shell is supposed to funnel sound to themic, so that it can pick up voices accurately from anywhere within three metres of the speaker.
You’ll get a whopping 24 hours out of a single charge of the A1’s 2200 mAh battery, and it takes just 2.5 hours for a complete charge. This is also one of the few speakers we’ve seen that will charge over USB-C, great news if you’ve recently picked up a OnePlus 5T or Google Pixel 2.
It might look great, but the A1 can also withstand the elements. It’s internal components are splash and dust-resistant, which is always a bonus.
