One person died late Saturday after a house fire broke out in Waterloo:
One person died late Saturday after a fire broke out in Waterloo, fire officials told KCRG.
Authorities were sent around 11:15 p.m. to the 100 block of Madison Street on reports of a fire.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found smoke pouring out of the home.
Firefighters found a person in the basement, and the individual was taken to a nearby medical facility, where they later died.
Officials have not released the victim’s name pending family notification.
The state fire marshal said this year was one of the deadliest years for house fires in decades, and in most cases, homes did not have a working smoke detector.
