Sometime back, two major vulnerabilities were discovered which affected the core processes of the computer. Named as Spectre and Meltdown, these vulnerabilities made sure that the user will face issues related to performance. While Microsoft teamed up with other manufacturers to make sure both of the vulnerabilities are fixed, the delays in the rollout of patches caused many problems for the end users.
Today, Microsoft came forward to share the progress they have made in order to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future. In a blog post, the company explained the steps that had taken to fix the vulnerabilities.
Microsoft said they have added the software coverage for x86 editions of Windows 10 and will rollout microcode for Intel Skylake devices running the most broadly installed version of Windows 10. Apart from this, the company also said that they are working with Anti-virus partners for compability with Windows Update. The company also said that they will check the compability before sending out updates to a specific device.
The continued focus of our work with our AV partners and customers is to manage the risk of compatibility issues, especially those that result from AV software that makes unsupported calls into Windows kernel memory. Due to this potential risk, we require that AV software is up to date and compatible. We will continue to require that an AV compatibility check is made before delivering the latest Windows security updates via Windows Update until we have a sufficient level of AV software compatibility. We recommend users check with their AV provider on compatibility of their installed AV software products.
Lastly the company also mentions that the users should make sure to update Windows regularly. Microsoft also recommended users to use the Windows 10 version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) as it is the most secure version of Windows available right now.
