At least five people were injured when a driver plowed their car through a group of pedestrians in San Francisco Wednesday morning. The driver crashed into the pedestrians and fled the scene, according to authorities.
Authorities had not yet said officially whether the crash was intentional, though a witness said the driver got into an argument with a person on the sidewalk and others intervened, KNTV reported. The driver got out of his vehicle armed with an axe before plowing his car through the crowd, the witness told the station.
“A second witness also said the driver possessed a small axe and that the people involved in the argument chased the driver back into the van,” KNTV reported. “That’s when the driver drove into the people on the sidewalk.”
All five victims were transported to a nearby hospital. Four suffered life-threatening injuries, KTVU-TV reported.
Police had not yet apprehended the suspect and were investigating the scene.
