The recently revived sitcom got renewed for another season by ABC, the network announced Friday. The announcement comes three days after the reboot’s first episode premiered to over 18 million viewers.
“We’re thrilled that America has welcomed the Conner family back into their homes,” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in a statement. “The show is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it left the air 21 years ago. We can’t wait to see what the ‘Roseanne’ team has in store for next year.”
The show’s star, Roseanne Barr, shared her exuberance over the show’s renewal in a series of tweets, including one thanking the network and the show’s fans.
‘Roseanne’ reboot was a ‘direct result’ of Trump election win
“HEY! THIS MEANS WE GET TO DO A HALLOWEEN SHOW!!! YAY!!!!!” Barr wrote in a subsequent post.
The original “Roseanne” series aired for nine seasons from 1988 to 1997 and centered on the ups and downs of the working-class Conner family.
Tuesday’s long-awaited Season 10 premiere picked up with Barr’s titular character, a staunch supporter of President Trump, in disagreement with her sister, who falls on the other end of the political aisle.
Trump, who called Barr this week to congratulate her following the successful premiere, raved about the ratings at a speech in Ohio on Thursday and celebrated the fact that he is a central figure in the show.
