SAN ANTONIO — Loyola-Chicago has seized control of its national semifinal matchup against Michigan, leading 29-22 at halftime in the Final Four.
The Ramblers, as good of a shooting team as any in these NCAAs, haven’t shot many three-pointers (they’re 0-for-3 from beyond the arc). But they’ve relentlessly attacked Michigan and scored in the paint. Big man Cameron Krutwig has been particularly effective, using his old-school post moves to score on Michigan’s Moe Wagner. And Marques Townes’ quickness (eight points) has been on display early on as well. Loyola has also gotten a nice boost from its bench with Aundre Jackson chipping in eight first-half points.
The Wolverines, meanwhile, have been cold. They went more than seven minutes without scoring a field goal during a drought, and are only in the game because big man Wagner has taken advantage of the Ramblers’ lack of size. The 6-11 forward has a double-double (11 points, 11 boards) through the first half. But Loyola hasn’t made it easy for him to get the ball. Michigan shot just 2-for-13 from three-point range in the first half.
