After establishing an indomitable presence in the prepaid market, Reliance Jio is now hoping to acquire India’s postpaid users. The telecom operator today introduced a new “Zero-Touch” postpaid plan which offers a range of unlimited services at a relatively cheaper price. Here’s your nine-point cheat sheet to understand what’s it all about.
Reliance Jio is calling the new postpaid plan “Zero-Touch”. That essentially means it comes preactivated with all the services like voice, internet, SMS, and international calling. Therefore, once you’ve paid the sum, you won’t have to deal with anything else to get started.
Jio’s Zero-Touch postpaid plan costs nearly two hundred rupees (Rs 199). However, unlike the prepaid offers, this is a monthly fee that you’ll be required to pay at the end of a billing cycle. Currently, there’s only a single package available. Perhaps, more will be announced in the coming weeks.
The postpaid will be open for registrations starting from this month’s 15th. You can apply for it through the company’s website.
The new plan comes with a 25GB high-speed monthly cap after which your bandwidth will be reduced to 64Kbps. All the other services, however, are entirely unlimited including calls and SMS. You also get unrestricted access to the company’s entertainment suite such as JioTV, JioCinema, JioMusic, and more. Like Jio’s prepaid subscriptions, there are also no roaming charges for calls or text messages.
Since phone calls, text messages have no additional fee and the mobile data is technically unlimited, you won’t also ever have to pay any overage costs on this plan either.
Reliance Jio also lets you enable automatic bill payment by linking an account. Once turned on, you won’t have to manually pay at the end of your number’s bill cycle.
As the Zero-Touch postpaid plan comes pre-activated with ISD, it will continue to function irrespective of the country you’re in. Reliance Jio is compatible with all the major regions including the United States, Singapore, China, and more.
Jio also outlined three new international packs along with the Zero-Touch postpaid package. As compared to Vodafone though, they are surprisingly a little more expensive primarily if we consider mobile data since all of Vodafone’s plans (including the Rs 500, Rs 2500, and Rs 5000 packs) offer unrestricted high-speed data. On the contrary, Jio’s Rs 575 and Rs 2875 packages only allow 250MB of 4G data every day. The rs 5751 one has a cap of just 5GB for the entire month. Calls and SMS are unlimited in both the cases.
Things are a bit more complicated when we compare it with Airtel. For starters, all of Airtel’s plans have a limit on text messages and outgoing calls. In addition to that, Airtel’s base plan costs Rs 649 and offers 500MB of data, while Jio’s is priced at Rs 575 (including taxes) and includes 250MB of high-speed data. Airtel’s 7-day Rs 2,999 package comes with 3GB of data allowance and Jio’s Rs 2,875 offers 250MB of a daily high-speed cap which is quite low.
Lastly, the 30-day international plan of Airtel is priced at just Rs 3,999 which is much less than Jio that charges nearly Rs 6,000 (Rs 5,751 actually). Both of them offer 5GB of mobile data, although in Jio’s case you can continue using it at lower speeds.
