Bundesliga 19.

Super Bowl Gospel Celebration comes to Lakewood Church

0

NewsHubAs gospel singer and actress, Tamela Mann sang through a heartfelt rendition of “God Provides,” audience members began standing on their feet. Some shouted praises. Some threw their hands in the air.
It was a taste of gospel brought to Lakewood church on Friday evening before Sunday’s Super Bowl..
Hundreds gathered inside the megachurch pastored by Joel Osteen to hear sounds from Mann and favorites like native Houstonian Yolanda Adams and Grammy award winning artist Cece Winans, as part of the Super Bowl Gospel celebration. A taping of the event will air Super Bowl Sunday 1t 11 a.m. on BET.
The show started with Prarie View University band members marching up and down the aisles. Houston rapper Lecrae crooned lyrics to “All I Need Is You” as the audience bobbed their heads to the bass.
Melanie Few-Harrison, daughter of a minister and lover of gospel music, thought of the idea years prior, when she realized Super Bowl festivities were missing an event focused on worship music.
“I said, ‘Where’s the gospel event?'” Harrison has recalled asking, when she attended a Super Bowl in the early 1990s. She wrote a letter annually for the next seven years appealing to the NFL, with no response.
Finally, in 1999 the inaugural celebration was held in Miami, featuring a rousing performance from Gladys Knight. A total of 17 celebrations have been held during Super Bowl weekend since then, with past powerhouse singers including Aretha Franklin and Patti LaBelle.
The husband and wife duo, Tamela Mann and her husband David, who have starred in many Tyler Perry productions, kept the diverse crowd laughing throughout the night as the official hosts of the event.
As David scanned the audience sitting in the lower church sanctuary, he shouted “We do everything big in Texas. ”
Lakewood is the largest venue for the celebration ever.
The night also featured some moments of deep reflection. Contemporary Christian artist Natalie Grant’s blue eyes became misty as she sang her hit songs “King of the World” and “Clean. ”
“I don’t need the government to solve my problems,” Grant declared to the crowd, who cheered.
A little football was also mixed into the night. Professional football players were sitting throughout the audience. Troy Vincent, former professional football player and the NFL’s current executive vice president of f00tball operations, received the Lifetime of Inspiration Award, for his contributions to the NFL community and for being a man of faith.
Mayor Sylvester Turner, also made an appearance, welcoming the crowd to Houston and bragging on the city’s diversity.
“We are a city where you can be yourself without judgement,” He said.
With all the other festivities in town, John Gray, the associate pastor at Lakewood, made sure the crowd knew that the night’s focus was “about worshiping God. “

Trump/Schwarzenegger Twitter spat continues

0

NewsHubUS president Donald Trump has criticised movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s stint as governor of California, and said the Terminator actor “tried hard” to make Celebrity Apprentice a success, but failed.
Mr Trump kept alive a spat which began during his first appearance at the National Prayer Breakfast.
The US leader, a previous host of the NBC reality TV show, took a pot shot at Mr Schwarzenegger – the current host and former California governor – over a ratings nosedive.
He said in his tweet: “Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger did a really bad job as Governor of California and even worse on the Apprentice … but at least he tried hard! ”
Mr Schwarzenegger responded quickly to earlier remarks in a video on his verified Twitter account, suggesting that he and Mr Trump should switch jobs.
His response to Friday’s dig from Mr Trump came later in the day in the form of a tweeted link to a 2006 article from the Los Angeles Daily News reporting that he, then governor, had released his tax records.
Mr Trump, as a candidate and now as president, has refused to release his own tax records.
Mr Schwarzenegger, best known for the title role in the Terminator movies, had no further comment beyond the linked article, according to his representative, Daniel Ketchell.
The article “speaks for itself”, Mr Ketchell said.

Here’s what actually happened in Bowling Green

0

NewsHubBy AJ Willingham
(CNN) — There was never a “Bowling Green massacre.”
Here’s what happened: In 2011, two Iraqi men were arrested on charges related to terrorism in Bowling Green, Kentucky. They were later convicted of trying to get weapons and money from the United States to al Qaeda in Iraq. They were also convicted of helping al Qaeda carry out attacks on American troops in Iraq.
In fact, the two men never plotted any attacks inside the United States, according to the head of the Justice Department’s National Security Division at the time.
Waad Ramadan Alwan and Mohanad Shareef Hammadi were arrested as part of an FBI sting operation after being under the bureau’s surveillance for months. All the weapons they had planned on shipping were already under the FBI’s control at the time of their arrest.
The men pleaded guilty to all the counts against them. Alwan was sentenced to 40 years in prison, and Hammadi received life in prison.
The discovery of these two men prompted the Obama administration to make temporary changes to the way Iraqi refugees and visa applicants were admitted into the United States.
But defending the new travel ban on immigrants and refugees, Donald Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway cited a nonexistent “Bowling Green massacre” in an interview Thursday.
How it affected national security
Alwan and Hammadi were both admitted to the United States as refugees. As a direct response to their arrests, the Department of Homeland Security re-vetted 58,000 refugees already in the country, imposed vetting on 25,000 other Iraqi citizens still in Iraq and significantly tightened the processing of Iraqi visa/refugee applications for six months.
The move was different from Trump’s travel ban, which has ensnared people who already have green cards and valid visas. The new executive order encompasses seven nations and has prevented some legal immigrants already inside the United States from leaving the country since their ability to come back in has not been assured.
Conway attempted to clarify her comments Friday morning, saying the media reported on the story before asking her “what (she) meant.”

Donald Trump zarządził przegląd regulacji bankowych

0
