Twitter does u-turn on hidden list feature after users complain

Twitter has rolled back a change it made to tackle bullying on the platform, just two hours after rolling it out.
Oh, Twitter. On Monday, the firm tweaked Notifications so that users wouldn’t be alerted if added to lists, with Twitter trolls using the feature to abuse or insult its members and harass people that they disagree with.
“We want you to get notifications that matter. Starting today, you won’t get notified when you are added to a list,” wrote Twitter Safety.
This decision didn’t go down well with Twitter users, who accused the social network of “blinding the vulnerable” and “sweeping the problem under the rug. ”
Users also complained that the blanket ban would limit an otherwise useful feature for connecting with other users.
Less than two hours after the feature first rolled out, Twitter took to, er, Twitter to apologise for the “misstep” and said that the change would be reversed.
Last week, Twitter revealed a three-step plan for tackling for the growing number of trolls and abusive comments on the social network. These include enforcing a permanent ban on suspended users, the filtering out of ‘abusive and low-quality replies’ and a new ‘safe search’ feature.

Michael Dell talks security at first post-acquisition RSA Conference
CEOs are worried that complexity may be undermining their companies’ security posture according to Michael Dell, who today joined RSA CTO Zulfikar Razman on stage for the opening keynote of RSA Conference.
Razman said this year’s conference was “truly special”, as it was the first since Dell acquired EMC , of which RSA was a part, becoming Dell Technologies.
Asked by Razman what the number one issue is for businesses today, Dell told the audience that it’s security.
“When I talk to CEOs and boards, this is an issue that’s of high concern for them. They’re concerned about complexity of their security posture and how they can manage the risks. They need to bridge this ‘gap of grief’ that you talked about.
“CEOs aren’t talking about cross-site scripting or malware injection, they’re talking about the business risks and for them it’s really a business issue and they want to know how it can be addressed and how they can secure their environment. ”
Dell also said IT is “breaking out” and becoming business technology, rather than information technology, with the IoT, Big Data and AI-driven analytics playing significant roles.
“When you think about what’s going on in the world today with the cost of making something intelligent approaching zero … and this digital transformation, with all the computer science overlaid on top of that data … that’s a tremendous opportunity,” said Dell. “[But] at the same time it has to be done securely. ”
Dell added that from conversations he’s had with both political and business figures, the global economy is no longer their main area of focus. Instead, it’s digital transformation, which is radically changing all areas of life.
“We really feel like we’re enabling this next wave of human progress and for me that’s a really exciting place to be,” he concluded.

Melania Trump reopens White House for tours

WASHINGTON, United States — After pressure from lawmakers, First Lady Melania Trump announced Tuesday the White House will reopen to the public in early March, nearly seven weeks after her husband Donald became president.
White House tours are highly popular with visitors to Washington, a perk arranged by members of Congress for their constituents and foreign embassies for their nationals.
Some members of Congress had begun complaining about the long delay in restarting tours that had been suspended since Trump’s inauguration January 20.

Melania Trump said the public tours will resume March 7 of the 224-year-old White House.
“I am excited to reopen the White House to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come each year. The White House is a remarkable and historic site and we are excited to share its beauty and history,” she said in a brief statement.
The first lady, who plans to continue living at the Trump Tower in New York until their 10-year-old son Baron finishes the school year, stressed her dedication to the White House.
“I am committed to the restoration and preservation of our nation’s most recognizable landmark,” she said.
The unusually long White House closure had irked a number of lawmakers, whose constituents were unhappy about the lack of public access.
On Sunday, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley rang the Twitter alarm.
“Whoever monitors twitter at WH for businessman president Trump ‘when is WH going to be opened for public tours?’ Mrs G wants to know,” Grassley tweeted.
A group of two dozen lawmakers circulated a letter to the White House on Monday, asking the same question.
“This time-honored tradition of allowing visitors into the White House was started by Thomas Jefferson in 1805,” the letter said, according to The Washington Post.

対象犯罪は、警察庁が２００６年６月に都道府県警に通達したマニュアル（運用要領）で規定され、朝日新聞の情報公開請求に対し、開示された。これまでは窃盗など一部しか分かっていなかった。

東京都港区の東芝本社には数百人の報道陣が詰めかけた。綱川社長は、今回起きた問題について「責任を重く受け止めている」と陳謝したが、進退は「指名委員会にゆだねている」と述べるにとどめた。
米ウェスチングハウス（ＷＨ）での内部統制の不適切行為疑惑については、監査法人出身で社外取締役も務める佐藤良二・監査委員会委員長が多くを説明した。「従業員からの内部通報がＷＨの社長あてにあった」としつつ、何があったかの詳細は「現在調査中で内容を控えたい」として答えなかった。
直前で発表延期となった理由は「内部通報の調査報告書のため、ぎりぎりまで手続きしていた」。業績への影響は「ゼロとは言えない。現時点で金額に重要な修正が起きるとは考えていない」と述べた。

マレーシアの報道によると、事件発生は１３日午前８時（日本時間同９時）ごろで、マレーシア警察も１４日、正男氏の死亡を確認した。６日にマレーシア入りしていたもようだ。
ロイター通信によると、正男氏は１３日、クアラルンプールからマカオに向かうところだった。出発を待つ間にショッピングエリアで倒れ、病院へ向かう途中で死亡が確認された。マレーシア警察は所持品に「キム・チョル」名義の旅券があったと述べたが、正男氏も同じ名義の旅券所持が伝えられたことがある。一方、遺体が安置された病院関係者は「１９７０年生まれ」と語ったが、正男氏は７１年生まれとも言われている。北朝鮮関係筋によると、死亡した男性の容姿は「正男氏に似ている」という情報が出回っていた。

U. S. authorities were concerned with and probing communications between associates of President Donald Trump and suspected Russian intelligence officials in the leadup to the 2016 presidential election , sources familiar with the matter confirm to ABC News.
The news comes just a day after Trump’s national security adviser, Michael Flynn, resigned amid questions about conversations he had with the Russian ambassador during the transition and continuing inquiries about the administration’s relationship with Russia.
The New York Times first reported the alleged “repeated contacts” between the associates and Russians in the year leading up to the election. U. S. officials speaking with the Times noted however that there was no evidence of cooperation between the campaign and the Russians to “influence the election.”
A U. S. intelligence report released in January previously noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a campaign to undermine the November’s presidential election and steer American voters to Trump.
In January, Trump denied that he or anyone in his campaign had contact with Russia leading up to the election when asked by ABC News’ Cecilia Vega. He has also denied having anything to do with Russia at all.
Russia has never tried to use leverage over me. I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA – NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!
And today, White House press secretary Sean Spicer was asked a similar question by ABC News’ Jonathan Karl.
Spicer at first discussed Flynn, but when pressed said: “I don’t have any — I — there’s nothing that would conclude me that anything different has changed with respect to that time period. “
