Vivo Y69 with 16 MP Moonlight Selfie Camera Launching in India Soon

0

Vivo Y69 is the successor of the Vivo Y66 with no noticeable upgrades apart from the addition of a fingerprint sensor.
Vivo India has officially started to tease the Y69 smartphone which can launch any time now in the country. The upgraded version of the Vivo Y66 comes with no major improvements apart from the inclusion of a front-mounted fingerprint scanner. This means that the Vivo Y69 would not be priced much higher than its predecessor.

Already released in the Philippines and Vietnam, the Vivo Y69 barely passes out as a midranger in terms of specifications. The phone sports a 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) TFT display which is attached to a premium metal unibody chassis. This high-quality construction along with the front-mounted fingerprint scanner do make the handset look quite handsome.
Foraying to the internals, the Vivo Y69 features the octa-core MediaTek MT6750 chipset. The middle-class SoC packs four Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.5 GHz each and the remaining four running at 1.0 GHz each. This is mated with a dual-core Mali-T860 GPU ticking at 520 MHz.
The Vivo Y69 comes with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of onboard storage. There is a dedicated micro SD card slot too.
Speaking of the operating system, the upcoming phone runs a customized Funtouch OS 3.2 layered above Android 7.0 Nougat.
Coming to the optics, the Vivo Y69 rocks a 16 MP Moonlight front camera along with a 13 MP rear shooter. The phone is clearly made for the selfie enthusiasts.
Connectivity-wise, the handset supports 4G LTE, VoLTE, dual band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz + 5 GHz) , Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, micro USB 2.0, etc. FM radio is enabled too. A 3000mAh battery juiced up the Vivo Y69.
While Vivo has not yet announced the release date of the Y69, official teasers clearly indicate that it is going to happen pretty soon. Talking about the price, the phone is expected to sell for around Rs. 13,000 to Rs. 14,000. Similar to other Vivo handsets, the Y69 would be extensively available at various offline stores across India. If you claimed water-damage on your Sony smartphone, you could be eligible for a 50% refund

0

After misleading marketing materials resulted in several water-damaged Xperia phones, Sony has been hit by a class-action lawsuit where those affected might get a refund on the device.
When Sony launched the Xperia Z3 back in 2014, the company touted advanced waterproofing with its IP68 rating – which is the highest level achievable – among other features.
However, after the bold claims made by these marketing materials resulted in several warranty claims, the Sony Blog was quickly updated shortly after the launch of the Xperia Z4 – and then again after the launch of the Z5 – reflecting its new stance on the water and dust protection feature. It suggested that users not use the device underwater even with its previous advertisements showing otherwise.
Due to the apparent lack of support for users who were affected by water-damaged phones, and the reluctance from Sony to repair these devices under warranty – thanks to its rather confusing stance on the whole process – has since resulted in a class-action lawsuit in the US. Those who attempted to claim and were denied by the company, requiring the user to pay for the repair, can now submit their complaints to the class-action website. The lawsuit points to the possibility of affected consumers receiving a refund of 50% on the recommended retail price of their device once the process concludes, depending on the outcome.
Sony devices covered under this class-action lawsuit include the following:
If you have one of these devices and never made a claim against the warranty, it remains to be seen if you’re eligible for this refund, due to it requiring a submission of all correspondence in relation to the water-damage claim. However, the lawsuit does make provisions for a warranty extension if you happen to not have damaged the phone and it’s still covered, so it is suggested that you submit your claim regardless.

The 10 best college football games in Week 1

0

The opening week-plus for college football features some terrific games, starting with Florida State-Alabama.
The 2017 college football season begins Saturday with five games across the Football Bowl Subdivision, including two involving teams ranked in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll. No. 21 South Florida is at San Jose State and No. 14 Stanford meets Rice in Sydney, Australia. (Yes, Australia.)
A soft opening, if you will.
Things really heat up a week down the road. The first full weekend of the regular season — beginning on Thursday, Aug. 31, and continuing Labor Day — has been inked into calendars for years, ever since programs such as Alabama and Florida State, among others, decided to trade cupcakes for potentially season-making matchups against fellow championship contenders.
On the flip side, with these pairings comes the possibility of seeing those College Football Playoff hopes go up in the smoke. In the three-year history of the Playoff, just one team has lost in non-conference play yet gone on to reach a national semifinal.
That would be Ohio State in 2014, and the Buckeyes went on to win the title — so there’s precedent. But much is on the line even as early as the first week of the season.
Here is Saturday’s full FBS schedule:
A glance at the best games of the opening weekend begins with two teams pegged to rank among the best in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
1. Alabama vs. Florida State, Sept. 2 (in Atlanta)
Alabama is the preseason No. 1 in the Amway Coaches Poll, and the Seminoles aren’ t far behind (No. 3) . The winner — especially if it’s the Crimson Tide — will take an early turn behind the driver’s seat in the race for a Playoff berth.
2. Florida vs. Michigan, Sept. 2 (in Arlington, Texas)
It’s a great game on paper. In terms of name value, at least, the matchup is an intriguing one: Michigan, entering its third year under Jim Harbaugh, and Florida, the two-time defending champion of the SEC East. That alone earns this the second spot on the list. But is this will be a good game? Depends. Do you like 17-13 scores?
3. Brigham Young vs. LSU, Sept. 2 (in Houston)
LSU’s talent edge can’ t be ignored. But as the Tigers find their rhythm behind a new offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, could the Cougars’ consistent approach yield a major victory? It’s something to consider: BYU’s style under Kalani Sitake should keep this one in striking range into the second half.
4. Texas A&M at UCLA, Sept. 3
A question: Which team needs a season-opening win more, the Aggies or Bruins? Kevin Sumlin again occupies shaky ground at A&M following another second-half swoon. UCLA’s 2016 season ran off the rails amid injuries and general ineffectiveness. The likely answer is A&M, but can Jim Mora and the Bruins afford another middling start?
5. Ohio State at Indiana, Aug. 31
Two story lines stand out among the many. One is the sight of Ohio State’s reworked offense under new co-coordinator Kevin Wilson, Urban Meyer’s choice to rejuvenate a tired attack. The second is Wilson’s matchup against Indiana, where he spent the previous six seasons before being fired in December amid allegations of player mistreatment. The question isn’ t whether Ohio State will win. But how will the Buckeyes look?
CONFERENCE PREVIEWS
POWER FIVE: ACC | Big Ten | Big 12 | Pac-12 | SEC | Independents
GROUP OF FIVE: AAC | Conference USA | MAC | Mountain West | Sun Belt
6. Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia, Sept. 3 (in Landover, Md.)
It’s an extremely intriguing matchup of former conference cohorts — long, long ago in the days of the Big East Conference — even if neither team is included among the top two favorites in its own league. What ties each team together is the feeling of building upon successful 2016 campaigns: Virginia Tech had a great first go-around under Justin Fuente, and Dana Holgorsen solidified his job security by leading the Mountaineers to a 10-3 finish.
7. Troy at Boise State, Sept. 2
This pits two of the best Group of Five teams. Boise State we know; the Broncos rank among the most consistent teams in the country. But Troy is set to make national noise out of the Sun Belt Conference, one year after its breakthrough under Neal Brown and his staff.
8. Appalachian State at Georgia, Sept. 2
Are the Bulldogs on upset alert? Absolutely. Though Kirby Smart’s second team should be drastically better than his first — good enough to be considered the favorite in the SEC East — Georgia will face a serious challenge from Appalachian State, one of the most balanced and effective teams on the Group of Five level.
9. Tulsa at Oklahoma State, Aug. 31
Oklahoma State has eyes on a Big 12 Conference title, a realistic aspiration for a team with this level of returning contributors and experience. But the Cowboys can’ t afford to look past Tulsa, which won 10 games last fall under former Baylor assistant Philip Montgomery and should challenge for the American Athletic Conference crown in 2017.
10. Maryland at Texas, Sept. 2
The Tom Herman era begins at Texas with far larger expectations than one might expect from a program fresh off a middling five-year run outside the Big 12 title picture. Part of the Longhorns’ appeal is simple: Few doubt the talent, and maybe a coach such as Herman can maximize the team’s ability from the start.

The Latest: Texas mayor says Harvey devastated his city

0

The Latest on Hurricane Harvey (all times local) :
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) – The Latest on Hurricane Harvey (all times local) :
8: 30 a.m.
A Texas mayor says Hurricane Harvey hit his coastal community “right on the nose” and left “widespread devastation.”
Rockport Mayor Charles “C. J.” Wax told The Weather Channel on Saturday that some homes and businesses were heavily damaged or even completely destroyed. Schools were also damaged.
He says emergency response system for the city of about 10,000 people has been hampered by the loss of cellphone service and other forms of communication.
Harvey made landfall Friday evening as a Category 4 hurricane but has since been downgraded to a Category 1. The National Hurricane Center says the threat in coming days is sustained rains that could unleash “catastrophic” flooding.
The city of Victoria, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) north of Rockport, had received more than 16 inches of rain by Saturday morning.
___
8: 15 a.m.
Daybreak has revealed some of the damage caused when Hurricane Harvey came ashore overnight, including downed lamp posts and tree limbs in Corpus Christi and roof tiles torn off buildings.
Harvey came ashore along Texas’ Gulf Coast on Friday night as the most powerful hurricane to hit the U. S. in more than a decade. It has since been downgraded from a Category 4 to a Category 1 hurricane, but the storm is expected to hover in the region for days and to dump as much as 40 inches (1 meter) of rain in places.
Corpus Christi’s marina has been left nearly unscathed, save an awning ripped from a restaurant entrance and a wooden garbage bin uprooted and thrown.
An old white sport fishing boat was partially submerged and several boats’ sails came unfurled and were ripped and whipping in wind gusts of more than 50 mph.
___
7: 45 a.m.
President Donald Trump has commended the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency for his handling of the hurricane now hitting the Texas Gulf Coast.
In a tweet Saturday morning addressed to FEMA head Brock Long, Trump said: “You are doing a great job – the world is watching! Be safe.”
Hurricane Harvey, the fiercest to hit the U. S. in more than a decade, is posing the first major emergency management test of Trump’s administration.
In a separate tweet, Trump said he is monitoring the hurricane closely from Camp David and “We are leaving nothing to chance. City, State and Federal Govs. working great together!”
He also tweeted that “We have fantastic people on the ground, got there long before #Harvey. So far, so good!”
___
5: 45 a.m.
Harvey has been further downgraded to a Category 1 hurricane as it churns slowly inland from the Texas Gulf Coast, already depositing more than 9 inches of rain in South Texas.
Harvey made landfall about 10 p.m. Friday east-northeast of Corpus Christi as a Category 4, with winds in excess of 130 mph (210 kph) .
But wind speeds quickly weakened and by early Saturday Harvey was downgraded. It continues to produce gusts of up to 120 mph (193 kph) and sustained winds of 90 mph (144 kph) . The National Hurricane Center warns of “catastrophic flooding” over the next few days.
Emergency personnel in coastal communities like Rockport, just northeast of Corpus Christi, say there’s broad damage to buildings. But Rockport Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Sims said early Saturday that firefighters were hunkered down at the city’s fire station waiting for conditions to improve to assess the damage.
___
4: 22 a.m.
Hurricane Harvey has settled over southeast Texas, dumping rain and lashing the state’s Gulf Coast with damaging winds.
The storm made landfall Friday night as a Category 4 with 130 mph (209 kph) winds. It gradually weakened over the next several hours and by early Saturday, the National Hurricane Center said it back to a Category 2 – still sustaining winds of 110 mph (185 kph) as of 3 a.m.
Early damage reports from Gulf Coast cities included collapsed roofs and walls. One community transported multiple people from a senior living home to the county jail for treatment after a roof caved in.
But officials remained largely unable to assess the damage before daylight.
The storm is expected to slow further and flood the area with rain through the middle of next week. The center warned that Harvey could produce life-threatening storm surges along a coastal area of more than 400 miles (643 kilometers) .

of hurricane Harvey. State of emergency. The storm is just pounding the gulf coast of Texas and, unfortunately, unlike other hurricanes, it’s not just going to peacefully move northwards and dissipate but stick around for awhile. It’s moving around six miles per hour. An we have already seen extensive damage with roofs blown off, roads flooded and it is still dark in Texas. We have not seen the full extent of it. As we’ve been saying this is just the start. There will be days of rain to come. More than three feet expected in some places so let’s get it back to ABC’s rob Marciano who is in port lavaca one of the places taking the hardest hit. Rain going sideways. Especially when we back up away from our protected barrier. We see around the hotel, a lot of debris from the actual hotel itself which is very well built. We got reports around town of pourer lines down as sporadic damage. When the sun comes up we’ll get some insight as to what went down here. It was a long, long night with loud noises, from other buildings and this building as winds hammered the area and storm surge which at last check is still here. High tide was midnight and the water has not gone back. The eye is past us and the back side of this thing obviously still packing an incredible punch so we’re still in this thing for the next several hours at least and then beyond obviously we have other issues. Dan and Amy, back to you. Rob, so much wind, so much rain still to come there, unfortunately and just a bit

hurricane drama playing out offshore. That’s right. Thousands of people are actually stranded on cruise ships. Unable to return to galveston and Ron Claiborne joins us with more on that. Good morning to you. Good morning, everyone. That’s right, the effects of hurricane Harvey there, not only being felt on land but on sea, about 20,000 passengers on cruise ships that were supposed to arrive in galveston, Texas, this weekend. But can’t because the port there is now closed. This morning, four cruise ships filled with passengers and crew are stuck at sea unable to return to Texas because of Harvey. Carnival cruise lines says its ships “Freedom” and “Valor” are being held a safe distance offshore this morning. They’re expected to make a stop in New Orleans at some point later today to refuel and restock with food and water before returning to sea. Passengers will be able to disembark in New Orleans if they choose. The carnival cruise ship “Breeze” scheduled to arrive on Sunday spent the night in cozumel hoping to set sail this afternoon heading back home and royal caribbean’s “Liberty of the seas” also in cozumel has started on its journey back to the U. S. A spokesman for royal caribbean saying they will return to galveston only when it’s safe to do so. That ship was also scheduled to dock there on Sunday. Port officials say they’re monitoring the situation. Galveston is expected to get pounded with heavy rain for the negative several days. So they still don’t know if any of those ships will be allowed to dock on Sunday or Monday or Tuesday or beyond. It could be well into next week as ginger was saying before those passengers can get off those ships. We’re going to be dealing with the effects for awhile. Both out at sea and on land, Ron, thank you.
