Was stört Sie an der alten?
tagesschau.de: Was schlagen Sie vor?
Edenhofer: Am Kohleausstieg führt kein Weg vorbei.

Turns out Trump didn’t ruin America’s economy

Foreign tourism to New York City is set to rise 3.6 percent this year — defying yet another of the many doomsday predictions about Donald Trump’s presidency.
Back in February, the city tourism agency said Trump’s “travel ban and related rhetoric” would mean a drop of 300,000 visitors this year. But the NYC & Co. prophecy proved false .
Finance expert Steve Rattner foresaw “a market crash of historic proportions” under a President Trump. Moody’s warned of a “weaker” economy. Many said 2 percent GDP growth was the best that could be hoped for.
Other doomsayers included Mark Cuban, CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin and firms such as Bridgewater Associates and Macroeconomic Advisers. (A less-dishonorable mention goes to Nobel-winning economist Paul Krugman, who at least walked back his doomsaying about “a global recession, with no end in sight,” soon after election night.)
In fact, the Dow has climbed more than 25 percent since Hillary Clinton conceded. And the first two full quarters of Trump’s term both saw growth of 3 percent or more. Oops.
More recently, Trump’s cutbacks of money to help folks sign up for ObamaCare brought warnings that enrollment would surely plummet. Hah! Over the first few days of open enrollment this year, a record number of people signed up, The Hill reported Tuesday.
The first day alone saw 200,000 sign-ups, twice last year’s number, and more than 1 million visited healthcare.gov, versus 750,000 in 2016.
As for all the noise about fascism and tyranny: Trump has scrupulously obeyed the law, even as judges came up with unprecedented legal theories to strike down his “travel ban” executive orders .
None of this guarantees that the markets won’t turn south eventually, or that ObamaCare won’t run into the rocks. But it does tell you that talk of Trump-fueled armageddon is partisan hysteria, unhinged from reality.

Apple AR headset reportedly coming in 2020

Apple’s ARKit marks the start of a long journey for the company’s work with augmented reality technology, but the long-rumored AR headset the company may be working on may still be years away from release.
A new report from Bloomberg claims that Apple is aiming to have its AR headset ready in 2019 and possibly start shipping it in 2020. Citing sources “familiar with the situation”, the report notes that this headset will feature a brand new display and run on a new chip and fresh operating system instead of the iOS mobile platform that currently runs ARKit. This new OS is apparently dubbed ‘rOS’ internally, which stands for ‘reality opertaing system’.
As for input, the company is allegedly experimenting with touch panels, voice activation serviced by Siri and head gestures.
Current prototype apps include virtual meeting rooms and even 360 degree video playback, both of which sound better suited to VR rather than AR. It’s unclear if this device will support VR in any way, but the report does state that the company is using the HTC Vive for testing and that a device similar to Oculus and Samsung’s Gear VR using iPhone components is also being used (though isn’t intended to be sold).
It’s no surprise to see Apple working on such a device; patents have suggested the company would be taking this path for a while now .
In the gap between now and release, Apple apparently intends to release a new version of ARKit with better software tools that make AR development much easier next year. This will even include multi-user support.
If true, Apple’s timeline seems to fall in line with the current state of other AR headsets. Microsoft’s HoloLens, for example, is available as a development kit, but we’re still no closer to seeing the consumer version than we were when it was revealed two years ago. Florida-based Magic Leap, meanwhile, is rumored to be releasing an early version of its mysterious headset within the next few months.

Trump slams 'haters' over Russia as he snipes at North Korea's Kim Jong-un

US President Donald Trump unleashed a twitter storm from his Asia tour on Sunday, slamming «haters and fools» playing politics with US-Russia ties and declaring that he would never describe North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as «short and fat».
Currently on the Vietnam leg of a five-nation sweep through the region, the US president, who has been relatively quiet on Twitter since leaving Washington, put out half-a-dozen tweets in quick succession ahead of his official welcoming ceremony in Hanoi.
The missives covered a range of subjects from Mr Trump’s relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, China’s efforts to rein in Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons programme, and a sarcastic tweet about his efforts to make «a friend» of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The US president, who met with Mr Putin several times on the margins of the just-concluded APEC summit in the Vietnamese resort of Danang, took a fresh swipe at critics of his efforts to forge a close working relationship with the Russian leader.
«When will all the haters and fools out there realise that having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing,» he tweeted.
«There (sic) always playing politics — bad for our country. I want to solve North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, terrorism, and Russia can greatly help!» he added.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One while flying to Hanoi on Saturday, Mr Trump said he believed Vladimir Putin was being sincere when he denied meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.
Mr Trump, whose key former aides are under US investigation for possible collaboration with the Kremlin, said he had repeatedly asked Putin about the claims during their chats in Danang.
«He (Putin) said he didn’t meddle. I asked him again,» Mr Trump, who is marking one year since his shock election victory, told the reporters.
«I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it,» he added.
Mr Trump’s Sunday morning tweets also focused on North Korea and its nuclear weapons ambitions that have been a dominant theme on each leg of his Asia tour.
Taking exception to descriptions by North Korean officials and state media of him as an «old» man, Mr Trump declared himself disappointed by what he took to be a personal attack from the North’s young leader.
«Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me «old,» when I would NEVER call him «short and fat?» Mr Trump said.
«Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend — and maybe someday that will happen!» he added.
North Korea is extremely sensitive to any remarks – even if not meant seriously – that it sees as disrespectful of the country’ ruling Kim dynasty, whose members are revered as near deities.
Since becoming president, Mr Trump has engaged in an escalating war of words with Kim, trading personal insults and threats of military strikes and raising concerns about an outbreak of hostilities.
Over the past week, Mr Trump has urged Asian leaders to take a united front against the threat posed by the isolated North, warning at APEC that the region «must not be held hostage to a dictator’s twisted fantasies».
Late Saturday, Pyongyang hit back, calling his Asia trip «a warmonger’s visit for confrontation» and saying it would only serve to accelerate Pyongyang’s push for nuclear statehood.
In another tweet Sunday, Mr Trump said Chinese leader Xi Jinping had agreed to toughen sanctions against North Korea, whose impoverished economy is hugely reliant on trade with China.
«President Xi of China has stated that he is upping the sanctions against (North Korea). Said he wants them to denuclearise. Progress is being made,» he wrote.
The US administration thinks China’s economic leverage over North Korea is the key to strong-arming Pyongyang into halting its nuclear weapons and missile programmes.
China has made no sanctions announcement in recent days, and it was unclear if Mr Trump was referring to statements Xi may have made during their summit in Beijing on Thursday, or when they met at APEC.

President Trump unloads on Twitter ahead of joint press appearance in Vietnam

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump unleashed a series of tweets Sunday morning as he nears the end of his epic 13-day diplomatic tour of Asia, going after «haters and fools» who question his ties to Russia and mocking the shape of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
President Donald Trump tweeted about Kim Jong-un on Saturday.
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump unleashed a series of tweets Sunday morning as he nears the end of his epic 13-day diplomatic tour of Asia, going after “haters and fools” who question his ties to Russia and mocking the shape of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un .
The stream of invective came after days of relatively restrained tweeting as Trump darted between Asian capitals on his first presidential trip to the continent. His anger at the Russia allegations burst forth after he told reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday that he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s denials that Moscow attempted to sway the presidential election.
“When will all the haters and fools out there realize that having a good relationship with Russia is a good thing, not a bad thing,” Trump wrote at 7:18 a.m. local time in Hanoi.
He spent the night here after a state dinner, and will hold talks and a joint news conference with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang on Sunday morning.
“There (sic) always playing politics – bad for our country,” he added. “I want to solve North Korea, Syria, Ukraine, terrorism, and Russia can greatly help!”
In a second posting at 7:43 a.m., Trump wrote: “Does the Fake News Media remember when Crooked Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, was begging Russia to be our friend with the misspelled reset button? Obama tried also, but he had zero chemistry with Putin.”
He was referencing a 2009 episode in which Clinton, then secretary of state, presented her Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, a small red button with the Russian word “peregruzka” printed on it.
“We worked hard to get the right Russian word. Do you think we got it?” she asked Lavrov, laughing.
“You got it wrong,” said Lavrov. The correct word for “reset” was “perezagruzka,” he explained. “Peregruzka” means “overcharged.”
Trump has long insisted that a better relationship with Russia could help solve vexing global problems, including ending the civil war in Syria and containing North Korea.
Trump has worked while in Asia to consolidate support behind his efforts to choke off support for Pyongyang, and delivered stern warnings to Kim during stops in Tokyo and Seoul.
But his message on Twitter Sunday delved further into the types of personal insults that colored his rhetoric about the dictator before arriving in Asia.
“ Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me ‘old,’ when I would NEVER call him ‘short and fat? ‘” Trump wrote at 7:48 a.m. “Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend – and maybe someday that will happen!”
He appeared to be responding to North Korea’s statement last week that Trump is a “dotard,” implying senility.
The flurry of tweets on Sunday came as Trump approaches the end of his Asia trip. He will depart midday for Manila, the Philippine capital, for a summit meeting of Southeast Asian leaders.
“Will be doing a joint press conference in Hanoi, Vietnam then heading for final destination of trip, the Phillipines,” Trump wrote, misspelling the name of his next stop.
Trump had remained dutifully on script during his visits to Japan, South Korea, China and Vietnam, including on Twitter, where his postings have stuck to the talking points he’s delivered during his stops.
But after a formal meeting with Putin was stymied during his visit to an economic summit in Da Nang, Vietnam, Trump held forth with reporters about the damage the Russia investigations unfolding in Washington are having on Washington-Moscow ties.
“Every time he sees me, he says, ‘I didn’t do that’ and I believe, I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it,” Trump said, referring to Putin’s denials that Russia meddled in the US election. “But he says I didn’t do that. I think he is very insulted by it, if you want to know the truth.”

GP missed woman’s bowel cancer as she was ‘too young’

A woman’s aggressive bowel cancer was missed by doctors for a whole year because they thought she was too young to get it.
At 32, Cara Hoofe was so constantly exhausted she could barely keep her eyes open, but assumed this was due to her hectic lifestyle.
But when her condition worsened, and she began having stomach cramps and constipation, she sought advice from her GP.
He sent her away with iron tablets for anaemia, despite her family history of bowel cancer – her father was diagnosed in his 40s.
Cara, now 34, was shocked to discover she had advanced cancer, which meant she had to have a large part of her bowel removed. It had also spread to her liver, and part of that had to be cut away too.
Just like her doctor, the merchandising worker never expected she would get the disease at her age – most people diagnosed are over 60.
But she found out she had Lynch syndrome (LS), an inherited condition which brings a higher risk of developing bowel, ovarian and womb cancer. It doesn’t cause any symptoms until the disease strikes.
LS is the most common cause of hereditary bowel cancer. It means a carrier’s lifetime risk of bowel cancer is 50 to 80 per cent. Women with the condition have 30 to 60 per cent risk of womb cancer and a 10 per cent risk of ovarian cancer.
And despite undergoing grueling treatment, Cara has an 80 per cent chance of the disease returning at some point in the future.
‘It wasn’t really something I thought about – although the possibility started nagging me, when I began to feel ill,’ said Cara, from Maida Vale, west London.
She said: ‘I was shocked to be diagnosed so young.
‘I do think a lot of people thought I was too young for bowel cancer and that leads to delays in diagnosis.
‘My GP had never seen it in anyone as young as me before. It’s seen as an older person’s disease.’
Shortly after her milestone birthday, Cara began feeling permanently exhausted and run down.
For months, she attributed it to her busy lifestyle taking its toll, now she was no longer in her twenties.
‘I’d been unusually tired for months but I just dismissed it as something that just happens when you turn 30,’ she said.
‘It makes me chuckle as if reaching 30 puts you on some slippery slope to the realms of being an OAP.
‘I hadn’t dreaded it. It hadn’t really crossed my mind, but when I started feeling sick, I thought it’s probably because I am getting old.’
But in January 2015, she saw her GP after having stomach cramps and constipation.
‘I knew there was a slight genetic link with bowel cancer, so it was somewhere at the back of my mind now I felt ill,’ she said.
‘I mentioned to my GP that my dad had bowel cancer, but I didn’t have any of the major symptoms, like blood in my stools, so it wasn’t the first thing we investigated.’
Noticing she looked anaemic, her GP prescribed her iron tablets – the start of a 10-month journey, ruling out problems like fibroids, before her cancer was discovered.
Cara said: ‘Because I was so young, I think even the doctors thought it was unlikely I’d have bowel cancer.’
But, when the iron tablets failed to work, her GP had one of her stool samples tested – finding blood in it, not visible to the naked eye.
After that, she was referred to Imperial Hospital London for a colonoscopy, where a telescopic camera is used to examine the lining of the bowel for abnormalities.
The same day the results revealed a tumour in the right side of her bowel. At that stage she didn’t know it was cancerous.
A week later she found out it was malignant. It was stage three, which means it hadn’t spread, and T4, which means it was locally advanced.
Cara said: ‘When I reached the point where the doctor actually told me I had cancer, in January 2016, I think I already knew, because it felt like I was following the same path as my dad did before his diagnosis.
‘I had started to prepare for that but it was still overwhelming when it happened.’
Around a month later, in February 2016, Cara began chemotherapy at Charing Cross Hospital in London.
Then, when she was four cycles into the six-cycle course, on her GP’s advice, she was admitted to hospital, in extreme pain.
It is still unclear what was causing the pain – but doctors performed emergency surgery to remove a large section of her bowel. The tumour was removed at this point as well.
After a three-month recovery period, Cara was given more chemotherapy to remove the last few traces of cancer.
But, she was dealt more heartache when, as she neared the end of the treatment, further lesions were found on her liver – meaning she would need even more intensive chemotherapy.
Last month, she had four-hour surgery at Hammersmith Hospital to have part of her liver removed in a bid to prevent the cancer from spreading.
Although she faces more chemo, she hopes to be discharged from the oncologist next year.
Because chemotherapy can damage fertility, Cara had her eggs frozen ahead of the treatment.
However, she is re-thinking her plans to have children in the future, in case she passed on her faulty genes.
If someone with LS has children, they will have a 50 per cent risk of inheriting the altered gene.
She said: ‘I wasn’t in a place where I was thinking about children when I was diagnosed, but it was always my dream to have them one day.
‘Now, I’m not sure if I would want to go ahead with that and risk my children picking up a faulty gene and having cancer.
‘I know there are things that can be done to test if you have IVF, but it’s a lot to have to go through.
‘It’s all quite overwhelming, as I’m thinking about treatment at the same time.’
Now she is raising money for charity Shine Cancer Support by walking the length of the Thames.
So far, she has completed around 70 miles, and will continue to walk the remaining 110 miles in stages.
She is also sharing her story to help raise awareness of Bowel Cancer UK’s Never Too Young Campaign, which aims to give younger bowel cancer patients a voice, change clinical practice and stop the disease in people under 50.
At the moment, the NHS offers bowel screening to over 55s, although a recent study, conducted by a French team led by Dr David Karsenti, has advised this should be lowered to 45.

Texas church shooting victims honored, funeral held

0

One funeral procession avoided passing the church, driving around Sutherland Springs before reaching a small cemetery on the edge of town.
SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas — Two white hearses carrying the bodies of a couple killed in last weekend’s Texas church shooting were followed by a long procession of vehicles Saturday evening that avoided passing the church, where more than two dozen people were fatally shot.
Mourners instead drove around the tiny community of Sutherland Springs before reaching a small cemetery on the edge of town, where dozens more vehicles waited along a rural road for the private burial of Therese and Richard Rodriguez. Sheriff’s SUVs shielded mourners at the cemetery’s three entrances.
The services for the recently retired couple followed a ceremony earlier in the day where about 100 people gathered to commemorate Veterans Day and to honor the shooting victims, nearly half of whom had ties to the Air Force.
“Maybe this will start the healing process that will get Sutherland Springs and Wilson County to put this horrific tragedy behind us and look to the future,” county Judge Richard Jackson, his voice breaking, told the crowd, which included first responders and law enforcement officers.
Jackson, the county’s top administrator, thanked the first responders and others who rushed to First Baptist Church in the aftermath of Sunday’s shooting. What they saw there will affect them the rest of their lives, Jackson said during the ceremony outside the town’s community center, where a wreath was placed near flags to remember those killed.
The gunman killed 25 people — authorities put the number at 26 because one was pregnant — and wounded about 20 others. The gunman died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being shot and chased by two men who heard gunfire from the church.
Investigators have said the shooting appeared to stem from a domestic dispute involving the attacker, Devin Patrick Kelley, and his mother-in-law, who sometimes attended services at the church but wasn’t there the day of the shooting. Kelley had a history of domestic violence: He was given a bad conduct discharge from the Air Force after pleading guilty to assaulting his first wife and stepson.
Sutherland Springs is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) southeast of San Antonio and not far from several military posts, including Lackland Air Force Base. The Air Force’s chief of staff, Gen. David Goldfein, said 12 of those killed were either members of the Air Force or had family ties to it.
Among them were Scott and Karen Marshall, both 56, who had decided to retire in nearby La Vernia after meeting when they were in the service together more than 30 years ago. On Thursday, a military funeral was held for them at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.
Retired Chief Warrant Officer Mike Gonzales, who led Saturday’s Veterans Day ceremony, moved to Sutherland Springs with his wife to raise their children in 2009. He said many veterans choose to live in the San Antonio area because of its deep military ties, and families tend to migrate to the city’s surrounding rural areas.
“We come here to enjoy life, to get quiet and to raise our children,” he said. “We’ve been to war zones and seen that tragedy firsthand. Never did we think that tragedy would strike here.”

U. S. Rep. Henry Cuellar told the gathering to lean on one another for support. The Texas congressman said $10 million in federal assistance has been secured to help cover overtime costs for law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation.
Some in the crowd Saturday wore shirts that said “Sutherland Springs Strong” and included an outline of Texas with a heart of the town’s location. The shirts were donated by Brenda Bierd, who lives on the Gulf Coast and whose home was damaged by Hurricane Harvey in late August.
“I hadn’t even heard of Sutherland Springs before the shooting, but this is what you do,” she said. “I just had this feeling I needed to be here.”
A steady stream of people also visited a makeshift memorial of crosses adorned with flowers, photographs, red hearts and white, purple and pink balloons.
Among the visitors was Jackie Lee, who said she asked her friends on Facebook if anyone would come with her from San Antonio this weekend. She said about two dozen people quickly said they would.
“It was on my heart since it happened,” she said. “I needed to come to show the community some support, to show these people some support.”
