Trump didn’t meet with flooding victims, but he will give $1 million to their relief. Eventually. Probably.
President Trump made it a point to visit Texas days after Hurricane Harvey, standing on a truck bumper and waving a Texas flag. What he didn’t do is meet directly with victims of the deadly storm that took dozens of lives and displaced thousands.
On Thursday, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, a former Texas governor, explained why: “He was advised: The better place for you to go is Corpus Christi or San Antonio or Austin, where no search and rescue resources would be pulled away from what they’re doing.”
Instead, Trump on Thursday pledged to give $1 million to Hurricane Harvey relief. That’s twice what pop star Miley Cyrus pledged and about a 10th of what NFL star J. Watt pooled together.
Just when Trump will give that money remains to be seen: He pledged to donate the same amount to veterans’ charities last year, but only did so once reporters looked into it months later.

The Trump administration underscored its hatred for Obamacare on Thursday, slashing 90% of the funds slated promote health care enrollment under the Affordable Care Act. Advertising will drop from $100 million to $10 million, health officials said. More than 12 million signed up for Obamacare in 2017— many in states that swung for Trump.
Meanwhile, John Kasich and John Hickenlooper, bless their hearts, handed Congress their plan to improve health care on Thursday.
The White House responded on Thursday to Russia’s decision to kick 755 U. S. diplomats out of the country last month. The Kremlin’s move came after the U. S. slapped stronger sanctions on Moscow in part over apparent meddling in the 2016 election. The Trump administration ordered Russia to close its consulate in San Francisco and scale back diplomatic presence in New York City and Washington. Still, no Russian diplomats will have to leave.
Trump, not exactly a friend to undocumented immigrants, is looking at ending Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA. The Obama-era program protects from deportation nearly 800,000 undocumented immigrants who came to the U. S. as children. On Wednesday, a slew of leaders — 130 mayors, 230 state lawmakers and hundreds of faith leaders, judges, police chiefs and sheriffs signed a statement asking Trump to reconsider. Their argument: DREAMers make real contributions to the economy, and the U. S. would lose $460 billion over the next decade if DACA ended.

Юрий Луценко заявил. что по факту убийства пяти работников МВД в Княжичах готовится вручение еще 8 подозрений.
Генеральный прокурор Украины Юрий Луценко сообщил, что по делу о перестрелке в с. Княжичи Броварского района, в результате которой от пулевых ранений погибли 5 сотрудников полиции помимо ранее врученных 3 полицейским чинам подозрений дополнительно готовится вручение еще восьми.
“Планируется вручение еще 8 подозрений”, – написал он на своей странице в Фейсбук в четверг вечером.
Ю. Луценко напомнил, что 30 августа работники Генпрокуратуры уведомили о подозрении в совершении ряда уголовных преступлений трех должностных лиц Национальной полиции, которые организовали и обеспечили применение 4 декабря 2016 года огнестрельного оружия в с. Княжичи. Тогда же в пресс-службе ведомства сообщили, что подготовили ходатайства об избрании этим трем подозреваемым меры пресечения в виде содержания под стражей. В четверг, 31 августа суд начал избирать им меру пресечения.
“По факту убийства 5 работников МВД в с. Княжичи, превышение власти и халатности работников Национальной полиции объявлено подозрения бывшему начальнику управления уголовного розыска Киева курят, бывшему заместителю начальника отдела уголовного розыска райотдела Мариновского, старшему инспектору корда Курти”, – написал генпрокурор.
Как сообщалось, во время спецоперации Нацполиции Украины и Корпуса оперативно-внезапного действия (КОРД) по задержанию грабителей в с. Княжичи под Киевом ранним утром 4 декабря 2016 года из-за непредвиденных обстоятельств произошла перестрелка с сотрудниками Броварского отдела полиции охраны Управления полиции охраны, во время которой погибли 4 правоохранителей.
Генпрокурор Юрий Луценко сообщил, что следователи Генпрокуратуры усматривают в действиях тех, кто координировал операцию правоохранителей, признаки преступной халатности, которая привела к особо тяжелым последствиям. По словам Ю. Луценко, команда направить КОРД была неправильной.
Министр внутренних дел Украины Арсен Аваков сообщил, что 8 человек уволили и еще около 12 накажут дисциплинарным взысканием по результатам расследования перестрелки правоохранителей в с. Княжичи Киевской области во время которой погибли 5 правоохранителей.
14 марта 2017 года Ю. Луценко заявил, что непосредственные руководители полицейской операции в Княжичах (Киевская обл.) , в результате которой погибли правоохранители, будут обвинены в тяжких преступлениях, которые не предусматривают условный срок.
“Ключевой вопрос, что стало сигналом для стрельбы. Экспертиза установила, что первым выстрелил один из работников полиции охраны Киевской области, который стоял за каменным забором и выстрелил вверх. Есть разные версии, или он услышал, что подъезжал КОРД, и он дал знать, или испугался психологически, но этот выстрел стал спусковым крючком дальнейшей перестекли”, – заявил Ю. Луценко в эфире одного из украинских телеканалов.

Дослідники проаналізували дані про 3028 пацієнтів, у яких була констатована зупинка серця. При цьому 246 осіб займалися фізичною активністю під час інфаркту, 17 із них – сексом.
Вчені помітили, що тільки одна людина з восьми виживала при серцевому нападі, який виник під час статевого акту. Водночас приблизно половина людей виживала, якщо інфаркт стався за будь-яких інших умов.
На думку дослідників, причиною частих смертей під час заняття коханням є шок партнерів, які не знають, як реагувати, і не відразу викликають швидку допомогу. При цьому кожна хвилина затримки знижує шанси виживання хворого на 10%. Якщо серцевий напад стався під час сексу, то хворому доводилося чекати серцево-легеневої реанімації вдвічі довше.

It’s been a relatively busy year for Nest, but it looks like the smart home company is about to get even busier.
It’s been a relatively busy time for Nest, having launched two new additions to its smart home lineup just this year. However, it looks like the company is about to get busier with something new to announce in less than a month.
Nest is sending out invites for a September 20 press announcement promising something big in the works, according to The Verge.
Given that the company recently released its Nest Cam IQ security camera — as well as announced the Nest Thermostat E just earlier today — we can’t help but wonder what else Nest has up its sleeve.
Going off the mention of needing ‘popcorn’ and a ‘comfy couch’ for the press announcement, it’s possible that some kind of home theater accessory could be Nest’s next big thing — that, or it just wants viewers all cozied up for its conference.
We’re just speculating at this point, so the best move now is to wait until late September to learn what Nest has waiting in store for us. In the meantime, we’ll go shopping for that popcorn — but only because that invite made us a little peckish.

President Trump will donate $1 million towards Hurricane Harvey relief in Texas, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday.
The president said he will donate his personal money, according to Sanders, although she could not say with certainty that the president meant his own bank account and not the Donald J. Trump Foundation. Mr. Trump, who will visit Texas Saturday for the second time since the deadly storm hit, has yet to pick a charity and is open to suggestions, Sanders said.
“I don’t know the legal part of exactly that, but he said his personal money so I would assume” that comes from him directly, Sanders said of the president’s pledged donation.
On Wednesday, Sanders told reporters that Mr. Trump and first lady Melania Trump were looking at “different options” to make personal donations to the relief efforts in Texas.
Mr. Trump was criticized for failing to address victims of the storm early on, and has been criticized in the past for giving less of his income to charity than some other prominent wealthy people.
Tom Bossert, White House homeland security adviser, said Thursday that there are 100,000 homes affected by Harvey in southeast Texas — some with flood insurance and some without. So far, the storm has killed at least 28 people, and authorities are focusing on rescuing people trapped in the floods and housing them in temporary shelters. Bossert said additional loss of life can be expected.
Bossert said the Department of Housing and Urban Development is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, as well as state and local officials, to take stock of available housing for displaced residents. Bossert said price gouging, whether it be in rentals or anything else, will not be tolerated.
“This will be a housing challenge, ” Bossert said.
Bossert said victims who are in the country illegally should not worry about their immigration status when seeking immediate relief, saying food and water wouldn’t be denied based on anyone’s legal status. Authorities, “won’t start rounding people up” at shelters, he said.
“What I would say though is in terms of immediate life saving, no individual human being should worry about their immigration status, unless they’ve committed a crime on top of coming here illegally, ” Bossert said.
Bossert didn’t expand on what types of long-term assistance people in the country illegally would be able to obtain, but said some types of assistance may be open only to citizens.
“I don’t think there’s going to be a lot of benefits going out to illegal immigrants in terms of the American taxpayer, ” Bossert said.
Regarding immigration status, Bossert and Sanders said there is no decision at this time as to whether Mr. Trump will end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, a program that protects some immigrants who arrived in the U. S. illegally while they were still children.

Georgia police officer tells woman 'we only kill black people' on camera

A Georgia police officer was fired for telling a woman during a traffic stop that police “only kill black people.”
Dash cam footage shows Cobb County police Lt. Greg Abbott standing outside of a vehicle during a DUI stop last year.
The officer asked the nervous woman to grab her cellphone, but she said she was afraid to move her hands because she “just seen way too many videos of cops.”
That’s when the 28-year police veteran interrupted her.
“But you’ re not black, ” Abbott can be heard saying in the video. “Remember, we only kill black people. Yeah, we only kill black people, right? All of the videos you’ ve seen, have you seen the black people get killed? You have.”
The incident happened in July 2016 but came to light Wednesday after a TV station in Atlanta requested the footage.
Announcing his decision to fire Abbott on Thursday, Police Chief Mike Register remarked that “there’s really no place for these types of comments in law enforcement.”
Speaking at a news conference, Register added, “I feel that no matter what context you try to take those comments in, the statements were inexcusable and inappropriate. They’ re not indicative of the values that I’ m trying to instill within the Cobb County police department and that I believe the county holds.”
Register said he’s known Abbott for many years and has known him to be an honorable man. The report from the internal review indicates that Abbott was trying to be sarcastic and to address the situation as he perceived it, Register said.
“He made a mistake, ” Register said. “I don’ t know what’s in his heart but I certainly know what came out of his mouth. It’s inexcusable.”
Abbott’s attorney, Lance LoRusso, says the officer’s comments must be viewed as a whole.
“He was attempting to de-escalate a situation involving an uncooperative passenger, ” LoRusso told The Washington Post. “In context, his comments were clearly aimed at attempting to gain compliance by using the passenger’s own statements and reasoning to avoid making an arrest.”
An attorney who represented the driver in the DUI case called the video shocking.
“I heard that, and I cringed, ” said Suri Chadha Jimenez. “The reality is, to us minorities, there is a real fear when you’ re pulled over. He thought it was a joke, but it’s not a joke to many people.”
Several social media users took to Twitter to share similar thoughts.

The deal is expected to value Nets at more than 31.3 billion Danish crowns ($5.01 billion) , the newspaper also reported. on.ft.com/2vNvIVi
Nets is seeing “considerable interest” from potential buyers, Chief Executive Bo Nilsson had said earlier this month.
Nets could be the next big deal in the sector following a flurry of acquisitions, including U. S. credit card payments processor Vantiv finalizing a deal to buy Britain’s biggest payments processor Worldpay for 8 billion pounds ($10.35 billion) earlier this month.
U. S. payment giants and Mastercard are both seen as suitors for Nets, which has a current market capitalization of 29.16 billion Danish crowns according to Thomson Reuters data.
Hellman & Friedman could not be immediately reached for comment while Nets did not immediately comment on the report.
