WASHINGTON — If you need to ship something in the next few days, you can save a little money if you act fast.
The United States Postal Service will increase the cost of shipping on several items starting on Sunday, Jan. 22. Rate increases that were announced in October go into effect Sunday.
The cost of a stamp will increase from 47 cents to 49 cents, which is also the same price to ship a 1-ounce letter.
Flat rate box changes include increases on small flat-rate box from $6.80 to $7.15, medium flat-rate box from $13.45 to $13.60,large flat-rate box from $18.75 to $18.85 and large APO/FPO flat-rate boxes from $16.75 to $17.35
Changes to flat-rate envelopes include regular flat-rate envelope increase from $6.45 to
$6.65, legal flat-rate envelope from $6.45 to $6.95 and padded flat-rate envelope from $6.80 to $7.20.
The changes in price represent a 3.9 percent increase according to the USPS.
