PHILADELPHIA — After allowing 13 goals in three previous appearances, goaltender Carter Hutton had something to prove to coach Mike Yeo and the St. Louis Blues.
Hutton stopped all 26 shots he faced and received goals from forwards Paul Stastny and Kenny Agostino to lead the Blues to a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Hutton’s shutout was his third of the season as the Blues won for the second time in three games after Yeo replaced Ken Hitchcock on Feb. 1 after a 1-5-0 stretch.
New York Islanders 6, Toronto Maple Leafs 5 (OT)
NEW YORK — Brock Nelson scored 2:42 into overtime to give New York a wild victory over Toronto at Barclays Center.
Nelson’s second goal capped a frantic back-and-forth affair. Toronto took a 5-4 lead with 2:01 left in the third on a goal by center William Nylander, but Islanders left winger Andrew Ladd answered with the tying score just 32 seconds later.
Ryan Strome. Nikolay Kulemin and Josh Bailey also scored for the Islanders, who are 7-1-2 in their last 10. Goalie Thomas Greiss recorded 27 saves.
New Jersey Devils 2, Buffalo Sabres 1
NEWARK, N. J. — Adam Henrique got some puck luck on his birthday, and his club won for the first time in a month on home ice as New Jersey skated to a victory over Buffalo at the Prudential Center.
The Devils snapped a seven-game losing streak at home, and completed a three-game sweep of their season series with the Sabres. Their last win at the Prudential Center was back on Jan. 2.
Rookie Pavel Zacha snapped a 1-1 tie with his sixth goal of the season at the 12:33 mark of the third period, roofing a rebound past Sabres goalie Robin Lehner with Henrique causing havoc in front of the net.
