After getting axed by President Trump, former FBI Director James Comey, attended a musical on Saturday.
Former FBI Director James Comey made his first public appearance since getting fired by President Trump by attending a musical on Saturday.
Comey and his wife, Patrice, enjoyed the matinee performance of “Fun Home” — a musical about a lesbian cartoonist who explores her sexuality and struggles with the suicide of her gay father – at the National Theater in Washington, D. C. The coming-of-age musical won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2015.
Barbara Whitman, one of the show’s lead producers, told The New York Times that the Comeys purchased tickets some time ago.
The show had such an impact on the Comeys that “they were wiping away the tears as they came backstage to meet the cast, ” Whitman told the Times.

“He said something to the effect of it was the best thing they could have picked for their first outing, ” she added.
Comey — who has remained out of the public eye since his abrupt firing amid investigation into Russian’s election meddling — was all smiles when posing for a photo with the cast backstage.
“Today James Comey and his wife Patrice joined us at #FunHome in Washington, D. C., ” Fun House’s official account tweeted Saturday.
Other high-profile public officials have also been seen at Broadway outings recently.
Former President Barack Obama took his eldest daughter, Malia, to see “The Price” at the American Airlines Theater in New York City in February.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also gone to several Broadway m usicals following her election loss and was spotted backstage with “Sunset Boulevard” star Glenn Close in February.
