Graco Children’s Products is recalling 25,494 convertible car seats because of serious injury risk, the safety officials said.
May 24 (UPI) — Graco Children’s Products is recalling 25,494 convertible car seats because of injury risks when a crash occurs, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday.
„In the event of a crash, the child seat webbing may not adequately restrain the child. As such, these car seats fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213, ‚Child Restraint Systems, ‚ “ the NHTSA said in a recall notice.
The listed My Ride 65 Convertible Car Seats models are 1871689,1908152,1813074,1872691,1853478,1877535,1813015,1794334 produced between May 16 and Aug. 1,2014 and sold in the United States. Model numbers in the affected manufacturing date range that do not have a webbing tag code of 2014/06 are not affected by the recall.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the defect, the company said.
„National Highway Traffic Safety Administration evaluates the restraint system compliance including the individual components of the car seat and the complete car seat in a dynamic crash simulation, “ Graco said in a notice . „During a test of the individual harness restraint component, the webbing on certain My Ride 65 convertible car seats did not meet federal requirements for breaking strength.“
Dealers will provide consumers with a free replacement harness.
Consumers may continue to use the My Ride 65 convertible car seats while waiting for the replacement kid, the company said.
Graco will notify owners of the impacted My Ride 65 car seats about the recall.
The recall is expected to begin July 17.
Owners may contact Graco customer service at 1-800-345-4109 or on their website .
Also, consumers may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov .
„Over the past 60 years, safety has been and will continue to be our priority at Graco, “ the company said in a notice.
Graco, based in Atlanta, was founded in 1942 in Philadelphia by Russell Gray and Robert Cone as Graco Metal Products, a company that fabricated machine and car parts. In 1998, Graco acquired Century, also a car seat manufacturer. The same year Graco was acquired by Rubbermaid and the company is called Newell Brand.
