Electronic music pioneer Moby has been called one of the most important dance music figures of the early’ 90s. His records have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Music fans may know his song “Porcelain, ” but book lovers know it as the title of his first book, a memoir that looks not just at his life as a poor suburban kid who made it big in New York’s dance club scene, but also as a chronicle of social and cultural circumstances that gave rise to the electronic music movement. As the paperback edition of “Porcelain” is released, OC residents have a rare opportunity to hear Moby talk about the book for the Register Book Club author series May 17. He’ ll be in conversation with Orange County Register pop culture reporter Peter Larsen at the Frida Cinema in the hipster hub that is downtown Santa Ana. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m. All proceeds from the $10 admission are split between the arts nonprofit Frida Cinema and the animal welfare charity Mercy for Animals.
