Muslims have received city approval for a cemetery on Blackmon Street in Rock Hill. An attempt to put a cemetery on a different site in 2015 failed because of zoning restrictions and neighbors who opposed the zoning changes for a Muslim cemetery. Police in Rock Hill handled two unrelated situations at the same time Friday where people barricaded themselves in homes. One incident, in the Crawford Road area, ended after four hours with the suspect surrendering. The second incident was off Ellis Street in Rock Hill.
York County sheriff’s deputies, Rock Hill police, a SWAT team and emergency medical responders were called to an incident on Ellis Street Friday afternoon. Officers said it was separate from the Crawford Road area incident where Rock Hill police were called. The area of the second incident is between Cherry Road, Mount Gallant and Ebinport roads, near Oakwood Acres Park.
