Microsoft had previously said that owners of devices running Windows 10 S could upgrade their operating system to Windows 10 Pro free of charge for the first year after purchase or for about $50 thereafter, but cautioned that „switching to Pro is one-way“. „If you make the switch, you won’t be able to go back to Windows 10 S, “ the company’s still reads. Like the Surface Pro, the Surface Laptop shipped with Windows 10 S, meaning the recovery image can, in effect, be used to roll back from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 S. While the process is free, there’s still a price to pay – namely that you will lose all your files, so if you do decide to change your mind, make sure you back up your files first.
