If you upgraded the operating system on your brand spanking new Surface Laptop from the pre-installed Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro but are having second thoughts, we have some good news. Microsoft had previously said that owners of devices running Windows 10 S could upgrade their operating system to Windows 10 Pro free of charge for the first year after purchase or for about $50 thereafter, but cautioned that „switching to Pro is one-way“. „If you make the switch, you won’t be able to go back to Windows 10 S, “ the company’s still reads. The reasoning for this is compatibility – some software that runs fine on Windows 10 Pro won’t run properly or at all on Windows 10 S, due to its ‚lite‘ nature, which is why only apps downloaded from the Windows Store can be used on Windows 10 S. It seems, however, that while you may not be able to drive the wrong way on the Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro route, you can perhaps reverse down it., Microsoft has within the past few days released an official recovery image for the Surface Laptop. Like the Surface Pro, the Surface Laptop shipped with Windows 10 S, meaning the recovery image can, in effect, be used to roll back from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 10 S. While the process is free, there’s still a price to pay – namely that you will lose all your files, so if you do decide to change your mind, make sure you back up your files first.
