The White House was on the defensive Wednesday over President Trump’s surprise decision to ban transgender people from military service. Deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders faced a barrage of questions about how Trump came to the decision, why he announced it over Twitter, whether the Defense department was involved, whether the decision was politically motivated and if Trump was failing in his campaign pledge to defend LGBT Americans.
