Released in October 1992, the film is undergoing a renaissance with a handful of screenings at indie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse this month. Theaters have been packed with (mostly female) Strait fans wanting to see it on the big screen just as they did 25 years ago.
On September 15 Strait is releasing the flick’s best-selling soundtrack on vinyl for hipsters to devour on their turntables. He’s also devoting more of his Las Vegas sets at the T-Mobile Arena to the songs from the album that have only received minimal traction in concert.

With Hollywood in almost eternal reboot mode we’re surprised it hasn’t already been remade for a millennial audience starring a new-school pop country star like Blake Shelton or one of those Florida Georgia Line haircuts. A female version of the film starring Kacey Musgraves or even Carrie Underwood might be worth a shot.
Maybe Hollywood (and Nashville) can leave this one alone for now and let us bask in its corniness and sweet nature for eternity.
