The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the man as Terrance Johnson.
A 44-year-old man died Tuesday (Aug. 1) , authorities said, nearly three weeks after he was struck by gunfire in Gentilly. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified the man as Terrance Johnson.
New Orleans police said Johnson was driving southbound in the 3900 block of Ford Street when shots were fired about 12: 15 a.m. July 13. He suffered a gunshot to an unspecified area and was taken by EMS to an area hospital.
Johnson was pronounced dead Tuesday, one of 106 murder victims in New Orleans this year, according to a Times-Picayune tally. Attempts to reach his family were unsuccessful Wednesday.
The shooting that eventually claimed Johnson’s life was one of three shootings reported that day – all within a roughly half-mile stretch. About 42 minutes after Johnson was shot, police were called to Gentilly Boulevard and Baccich Street where a 20-year-old man „was approached from behind by an unknown male“ who pointed a gun at him, according to a preliminary NOPD report issued later that same day. The 20-year-old took off running and the „unknown male“ started shooting, striking him twice.
The NOPD report said the wounded man returned fire, though it does not say whether anyone else was wounded.
Four blocks away, officers found a wounded 17-year-old lying on the front porch of a home in the 2700 block of Verbena Street. The NOPD report said the shooting was reported at the same time as the shooting at Gentilly and Baccich. The male teen was taken by EMS to an area hospital.
Police said later that day that investigators were probing any possible connection between the three shootings.
