In less than two weeks Google will take to the stage to announce a new Chromebook Pixel, the Google Pixelbook. Read the latest rumours on the Pixelbook, including its anticipated price, specifications and UK launch date. Plus, follow the Pixelbook launch live stream.
At a special event on 4 October Google will announce a new laptop in the Google Pixelbook. It will come alongside its new Pixel phones, a Google Home Mini and a new Daydream View.
Last year Google announced Project Bison with an anticipated launch date of Q3 2017, and it seems probable that the upcoming laptop is the product of this venture. However, the laptop in question was originally said to be running Andromeda – a mash-up of Chrome OS and Android – but a source speaking to Android Police confirms that the device will actually run Chrome OS.
Google has announced plans for a special event that will take place on 4 October at 9am PST/4pm BST. It is during this event that we will see the Google Pixelbook announced, and we expect it will go on sale shortly after.
We’ve embedded the live stream at the top of this page, so come back on 4 October at 9am PST/4pm BST for full details.
We will also have reporters at the event and will host a live blog of real-time coverage and expert analysis on this very page.
Although it adds to Google’s ‚Chromebook‘ line-up, Google’s upcoming device will not be a budget laptop.
According to Droid-Life the Pixelbook will start at $1,199 – and we’d expect that price to directly convert to £1,199 in the UK.
That’s for the 128GB storage model, and there will also be 256GB ($1,399/£1,399) and 512GB ($1,749/£1,749) options.
There will also be an optional Pixelbook Pen (a pressure-sensitive, lag-free stylus) that costs $99 or £99.
Although this may be a separate project entirely, if we accept that Project Bison and the Pixelbook are one and the same then we already know some details about the specification. Intended to be a rival to the Apple MacBook Pro and Microsoft Surface Pro, the under 10mm-thick 2-in-1 laptop should come with a 12.3in screen, 32/128GB storage, 8/16GB of memory and an optional Wacom stylus.
Indeed, Droid-Life reports that this is a hybrid laptop that can fold into a tablet. It says we will see 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options and that the device will come in silver.
