The U. S. government estimated that the economy grew at an annual rate of 3 percent last quarter, but you wouldn’ t know if you watched ABC, CBS, or NBC’s evening programs.
The 3 percent figure was much higher than the 2.7 percent rate expected, and was the first time the GDP growth rate hit 3 percent in over two years. But, as noted by the Media Research Center, broadcast networks chose to ignore the big news.
In addition to covering the Hurricane Harvey devastation, the combined networks covered tax reform, North Korea, Princess Diana, a study on fatherhood, a new kind of cancer treatment, Sen. John McCain’s return to the Senate, and a shootout involving police in Sacramento, CA.
Print news organizations like The New York Times, Washington Post, CNBC, and Business Insider all covered the good economic news the day it was announced by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
