President Trump declared Sunday as a National Day of Prayer for the millions of Americans harmed by the disastrous Hurricane Harvey, and for those at work in rescue and recovery efforts.
“I don’ t know when this was done last, but it’s been a long time coming, ” he said during a Friday signing ceremony in the Oval Office.
Trump was surrounded by officials from the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, and Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, all of which have been active in feeding and sheltering storm survivors.
“From the beginning of our Nation, Americans have joined together in prayer during times of great need, ” the official proclamation reads.
“I call on all Americans and houses of worship throughout the Nation to join in one voice of prayer, as we seek to uplift one another and assist those suffering from the consequences of this terrible storm.”
