Our readers shared their thoughts on whether President Trump cutting federal payments to insurers would push Congress to pass heath care reform.
President Trump signed an executive order to cut off federal payments to insurers, putting pressure on Congress to take action to address the high premiums that American consumers could face. Comments are edited for clarity and grammar:
Looks like Trump is going to force Congress to actually do something to either fix or repeal the Affordable Care Act. The action taken stops the illegal payments to insurance companies that should have been stopped by our last president.
— Dennis Weakland
This move is going to hurt the sickest members of the middle class most. Good move, Mr. President. Keep it up, and not even Hillary Clinton running against you could get you or your party re-elected.
— Dora Smith
If your health insurance premiums rise, you have Trump to blame! Send the bill to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
— Tia Maria
Many conservatives don’t know the ACA and Obamacare are the same thing. They don’t know they were getting better health care because of it. Some of these people voted for Trump. Now they might lose their insurance because they hated President Obama and anything associated with him.
— Ray Flores
Obamacare is now dead. The health care disaster that is looming is on our extremely unpopular president; he owns it now. And he’s doing this out of spite for the previous administration with no regard for the citizens his actions are hurting.
— Stephanie S. Mullen Fudge
If anyone wants to take notice, instead of bashing, several of Trump’s orders have kicked the ball back to Congress instead of the executive branch. I suspect the Republican-controlled Congress won’t act.
— Joe Potosky
Congress needs to act and lawmakers need to stop worrying about their re-election chances, and lead the damn country!
— Greg Gibson
